3% better performance per dollar. Yep, the 7870 is a terrible choice! rolleyes.gif

That little chart you threw out there means bugger all in the real world.
GTX670 is on average 13% faster than 7970 , i guess that makes 7870 as good as 7970 , according to you at least ............ rolleyes.gif

You need help. Seriously. Seek professional intervention.

You make a performance per dollar claim, I destroy it, and you back up and pretend that only performance matters.

Can't stomach that 670 can you ? lol ! lachen.gif
I gave you practical example in the real games , the chart you pulled shows nothing , how can 7870 be a alternative for a card that beats 7970 keeping in mind there is only $60 difference between them , how is 7870 a good purchase in the light of that ?
Sometime you'll have to burst that AMD branded cocoon mate , and face the real world. biggrin.gif
I just can't wait for 660 (Ti) , I'm not going to buy one but if it turns out how it's expected ............ well lets just say you gonna have to do a lot of typing and cherry picking of benchmarks for AMD. wink.gif

P.S You conveniently ignored my post about GTX670 SLI , so since you seem to represent AMD's business here , please find me a viable alternative from AMD's arsenal that matches Nvidia.

getting a gimped card because nvidia failed to design a manufactureable GPU in 2012 is inexcusable.
i still want my $350 HD7970. smile.gif

Aside from the unneeded hostilities, what consumer grade applications utilize GPGPU? I curious because I have no idea, and it took me forever to find applications that used quicksync(still haven't found any free ones).

the obvious ones;
browsing the net -> now GPU-acceleration enabled
antivirus scanning -> GPU-acceleration works on that too
archiving/zipping/unzipping files
transcoding, editing, playing- HD media

and to pay these off by mining bitcoins, where nvidia isn't profitable ..

How on gods green earth could you come to this conclusion based off what I said? I don't know how it can be made any more clear to you, I explicitly stated the person had an opportunity to purchase a card from someone for $300. I even gave details, as provided by that other member, as to how it came to be.

At this point I can only assume you are trolling, as you must have nothing else to do, because I refuse to believe that the human race can produce someone like you. There is no way humanity as slid so far as to have someone walking among us that can not understand this.

So please, stop trolling, you are making yourself look bad.

I am a customer in a market for a new video card , since I'm running 2650x1440 my GTX590 is flat out maxed and barely coping with this many pixels to move.
My initial thought was GTX690 which would be a natural replacement for GTX590 , but since GTX670 came out situation has changed a little.
Since reference GTX670 SLI is only 2% slower than GTX690 being 20% cheaper and more power efficient this already makes it viable alternative for 690.
Now getting two Gigabyte GTX670 Windforce 3X which are already overclocked to 980MHz, Boost 1058MHz which closes the little gap between GTX690 , they have lower power consumption , they run cooler and they still have more OC headroom while costing me $200 less than GTX690.
I just want to notice that I'm looking for a "smart money" purchase rather than E-peen so the looks or "prestige" of GTX690 have a little to no appeal for me.
So please AMD humor me because I'm having a hard time matching the kind of value/power with power efficiency and low operational noise with AMD offerings.
P.S I am sure a lot of people will reach similar conclusion , meaning ... Nvidia with current pricing offers better value for your money , and this is really amusing because this used to be AMD's turf.

Your issue isn't lack of horsepower, but lack of available VRAM. You will want to get a GTX 680/670 4GB or a 7970 which as 3GB of VRAM. The GTX 590 only has 2GB of effective VRAM, which is causing you to hit the performance ceiling at your resolution.

EDIT: Just went back and read the last couple of pages after typing the above response. Holy hell did this thread become hostile in a hurry, mods just need to lock it at this point.
