4.7 ghz is max 100% stable clocks i can run my 3770k with normal temps. Above is not for 24/7 without water coolin, good water cooling loop..

I'm with you but I feel comfortable up to 1.400v load though as long as it doesn't exceed 90c on prime. We'll see once these have been out over 6months how they take the voltage I guess.

Jees good effort, I would love to see some prime95 torture test temperatures. I wouldnt be suprised if your chip actually melted in its socket. You will easily be looking at max cpu temps (105C) and then it will throttle down. I bet if there was no limit before throttlg this cpu would get well over 110C and die within minutes.

It's not easy to figure out how to properly over clock a new cpu. IB is very sensitive to voltage. If you are having a tough time figuring out how to get to 5ghz on ambient temp cooling I recommend you start by learning how to OC at 4.5GHZ and go for the lowest stable voltage you can achieve. Once you know know that then you can start to slowly come up from there to tweak to 5GHZ or more.


Here is my low voltage stable setting for 4.5GHZ

4.5GHz, 1.136v, PLL 1.55v, RAM 1.63v, 2133mhz, 9-11-10-27-1T

I'm water cooling with 1x120mm + 1x360mm hwlab stealth radiator with triebwerk 123 fans pulling. Swiftech Apogee HD block. Same loop has a block on GPU and separate block on GPU vrms. (custom video card cooling).

Thanks, I actually for fun ran prime for 30 seconds, temps were ~100C. Then ran prime small ffts for about 15secs, and throttled down to 4.7ghz and 1.4something vcore, and yes temps hit 105C instantly. I am not at my house for few days, but I posted pics somewhere of prime 5Ghz cant remember if on this forum or another. But just did it since curious of temps.

Actually if you turn off prochot in the bios, the chip is hardwired to shutdown at around 120-125C to prevent catastrophic failure, havent tested that on this chip, but have on several others. And they work fine after that.

@SonDa5, thanks.

@IronWill1991. We are just benching here, not 24/7. People benching take some small risk with voltages, but given they are only at those voltages for ~30min, the risks are very small But risk is up to individual. I have never killed/degraded a chip doing short term benching with vcore 1.6 or less, ~1.5 max I have used on ivy....but that is just my experience. No one has access to intels MTTF curves, so no one can tell you that info for sure. People just go by their past experience.

I don't know.


I just try to keep it as cool as possible. MAX TJ is 105C. At 5GHZ I'm hiting 80C and 90C on different cores during Prime95.

Linx gets too hot for 5GHZ with my cooling so I don't use LinX to stress test at 5ghz..

I'm still working on tweaking voltages to lower temps. Hopefully I will find the perfect harmonic balance to lower voltages to lower temps for more stability and performance at 5GHZ+.

Well, I couldn't get 4.6GHz stable. My comp froze few minutes in prime at 1.38V. The highest prime temps before the freeze is mid 80C. I'm testing out 4.5GHz out. First core got an error after 2 and half hours at 1.33V. The max temp is 88C. Most of the time is low 80C. I'll bump it up to 1.34V and test it out. I think I have the worst chip ever. For some reason my mobo's minimum PLL voltage is 1.586. Bty, my vdroop on load is about 0.018-0.026 on LLC level 2. Is this vdroop acceptable?
