[CANCEL] No Longer A Project

Hello forum.
Last week an interesting event happened to me. I came up on of our own in heavy distress. He had said that his unit took a lot of kills and some of the remaining were rescued from a bombed out building, which not much was there for an type of protection. One soldier in particular could not breathe, definitely was over-heated, he was beaten and tattered and was left for dead. This soldier needs triage to save his life from the wounds of battle. There is life still left in his carcass, although his outer uniform has been slightly abused from the near-hits of the conflict in war, his guts are beyond devastating hours of repair, replace and recondition. This soldier wants to live and fight another battle!
I’d received this Cooler Master Storm Sniper from the UPS delivery driver in a well packaged box. With both the Sniper in full gear and plus the acrylic side panel, had survived the long trek from the western coast of California. Upon full inspection of the enclosed items, there seemed to be no sustained damage from the truck ride to my shop. But the inspection did bring into question a lot of issues, complaints and necessary maintenance.

All the brown in these pictures is compacted dust, dirt and YUCH. How could something this new get into this kind of condition in a small amount of time? After a lengthy discussion with the sales representative at Cooler Master, there will have to be some “decisions” made on behalf of this case because of the lack of replacement parts some of the parts will have to come from its sibling the HAF 922. The sheet metal, plastic exterior pieces, floor and ceiling are the only difference in the two assemblies.
So now, let us continue with the dissection of the soldier and see what can be done to get it back onto the frontline to confront the evils of war.

Looks like a heavy smoker owned it, good luck with bringing it back from the brink of death thumb.gif

I hate seeing computers that smokers owned, including cases. It definitely looks like a heavy smoker owned this one, and never cleaned the dust panels. Sadly the dust panels in this case dont help with smoke much as the particulate is very fine. And it tends to stick to EVERYTHING.

Id hate to see what the motherboard and things that were removed looked like. And good luck on the CM and Build!

Now the soldier is stripped naked of their sheet metal, plastics and electrical. All metal is to be cleaned, washed, and disinfected with anti-bacterial soap, vinegar and finished in a high-heat environment (dishwasher). The plastics are to be soaked and soaped in a tub to lift any staining and scent. Lastly, the electrical is to be carefully washed and disinfected and what is not able to be saved with be replaced.

So what is the new fate of our rescued dog or war? Our soldier has a lot of fight and determination. Wanting to compete in the fight and push for a victorious win in the battle against evil purveyors of wrong injustices.

Returning back into the original night terror of far-away kills? So we have to re-dress back into the dark fatigues and quiet performance to blend into the whispers of the evening.

Or, shall the adventure into the desert of sun-hot days and nights of slowly one-by-one pick-offs? So we will have to be darned in the recent digital camouflage of the sand, terra and loose Sahara scant vegetation.

Or, is it to be dropped off into the frosty tundra of snow and ice with low foliage for cover to tempt the enemy with “can you see me know”? The uniform will need to be changed to agree with the terrain of blindingly-white snow, sparse ground cover and low-density flora.

I’d like to vote for the winter scheme with ice (water cooling) running though the veins of our left-for-dead hero. With a blacked-out interior, a black and blue (or white) motherboard, alternating black and blue (or white) RAM, black or white CPU water-block, and a color change to the plastics and exterior metal to reflect and blend into the white (with possible camouflage of alternating black and gray) outdoors.

Couldn't wait to get some thoughts going, the metal is still hot from the dishwasher. I've got a 120.2 radistor in the roof and it should go push/pull without hacking the top panel and the handles are still funtional.

Tape shows the radius that needs to be cut for fan relief and allow where the fans stop under the grip of the handle. The front fan tape shows where the radiaotr stops and the bay reserviour ends. this should only have two lins going to the CPU only visible. This reserviour may not be the final unit, but for visual, it's what iI got.

We have plenty of room between the reserviour and radiator header. Even looks like a thicker (45-60mm can fit) radiaotr can fit. Notice the offset torwards the panel side to hopefully clear RAM and VRM heatsinks.

Hey Air, just noticed your a fellow Arkansan. You have any local computer parts sources ? I haven't found any decent CPU shops around Conway/Little Rock area...

On that note can't wait to see how this turns out. I love budget builds and builds that re-purpose old cases.

thanks

Your soldier is looking much more hale already, I can't wait to see it dressed out in a proper uniform. May I suggest a wintry camouflage, something in blue, white, and grey perhaps? thumb.gif

i share your outlook as well. using the USMC Disruptive Overwhite Snow digital camouflage
was along the scheme of things. i remember seeing some older wwII german block design
using gray, dark gray, black and egg blue. but that was the past, now is the future. thanks
for your suggestions..
