[VR-Zone] HP's Steve Wolff dismisses claims of imitation - says Apple doesn't own silver - Page 2

sure.

and HP just couldn't design their keyboards any differently either.

and the touchpad being buttonless and looking extremely similar couldn't be helped.

What's funny is, the stuff they rush to copy is garbage. the keyboard on macbooks is awful. I personally can't stand their touchpads either, some people love them though.

Apple shouldn't be allowed to "own silver", but owning the combination of an aluminum laptop, particular keyboard style, and particular touchpad style sounds a lot more reasonable to me.

This one does have some differences, but HP is actually saying that they didn't blatantly copy large chunks of Apple's design? Don't believe it.

Keyboard looks remarkably similar (surrounded by Macbook Pros at school as I type), but nothing else really stands out. The brushed aluminum looks different, trackpad is different, too.

True, because keyboards have different designs?

Same with touchpads?

Looks like a laptop to me, like any other modern laptop. Chiclet keys are the norm, were they supposed to make them pink?

Minimalist designs are the big thing right now, and like he said, its a laptop, what are they going to do, make one shaped like a banana?

Haven't these been in use by hp for a couple years now? This keyboard is their standard I think for around 2 years now and predates 09. And I know they've had higher end models w/ buttonless keypads for at least 2 years now since my friend has one from 2010. Sounds like you're implying they used these just on this particular model in attempts to make it a macbook copy.

I have seen quite a few laptops with keyboards like that...

Sony had an Ultrathin first... The X505 is as thin and light as todays UBooks(Go check out the specs). The only reason the Air existed was because of Intels leadership in ICs. They wouldn't have been able to achieve a profile with IBM giant chips and the mainboards that require them.

I am by no means an apple fanboy, but why do people argue for anything that isn't apple?

I mean truthfully there isn't a whole lot of places design wise that you could change an ultrabook, that doesn't change that they are trying to get that mac look for aesthetics. Also the buttonless touchpad, I'm quite sure I remember that being apples thing. Yes it is somewhat "standard" now but why do you think they started using them more and more?

I don't really remember seeing chiclet style keyboard until after the macbooks started using them, but then again I didn't really follow laptop releases either.

Either way sexy laptop, but I'd rather have an ASUS

Uhm, quote me if I'm wrong, but when did Apple EVER say that anybody copied or immitated their products?

As was said in the initial blurb,
Quote:
these similarities are not due to imitation, but are simply necessitated by the path of technology.

Also, the touchpad is not buttonless--it has a nice big button at the base. thumb.gif

The keyboard doesn't look like a macbook air keyboard to me--it looks like the keyboard that came on the asus laptop that I got a good 3 years ago. But so what? There's only like one realistic and practical keyboard layout you can use with these form-factors, and even taking that into account, the key layout is similar but significantly different from the air.

Again, as stated, necessitated by the path of technology.

Are hard drive manufactures going to be required to have different enclosures for their platters (or SSDs) just so they don't all look alike?
