I will have huge respect for the first company that spends the extra 10 bucks to anodize the aluminium mirror black, just to mess up everything.

That doesn't even look like an Apple product. The side view is by no means to proper scale nor dimensionally correct. More anti-competitive plays made by Apple.

The spectre doesn't look anything like the macbook.

I must say the Spectre indeed does not look much like the Macbook Air, but the Envy however ...

It has differences, but to say it doesn't look anything like it is a gross overstatement

That's like saying all cars look the same, which is right to a certain extent but when it's too much alike then it's too much alike.
But look at this hybrid from Honda and please tell me it has nothing to do with the Prius.

Companies do this all the time, and HP does not even have the decency to acknowledge it
At least Jonathan Ive game gave Dieter Rams proper credit

Obviously if it produces less heat and has no internal DVD drive it's going to be able to be made smaller and lighter.

You clearly missed the point, this is what he was responding to...

Clearly OTHER companies had slim form factors BEFORE Apple came along with Slim form factors. So if anything, it's Apple copying other companies, not the other way around.

Exactly, and that's why Apple wants this patent, with their sue happy monopolistic ways, they'll sue any "laptop" that closely resembles that patent. They can literally go after any ultrabook, sleekbook, etc and claim that they're infringing on their intellectual property.

So yeah, i'm a designer and I do not agree with you, can I ask what your background is?

And about your beef with the HP designers, think about this, a laptop body is conformed by:
1) Box to house the hardware
2)hinges
3) screen
The design you complain about uses a basic box with a round chamfer on the edges, that shape is that much easier to manufacture and design than the one the "fat" laptops use , wich require dozens of molds for the different plastic components. Makes the life easier for everyone in the manufacturing process, while giving you a much better product at a good price.
And no, Apple's main designer ( Jonathan Ive btw, not "that guy") does not own or invented that shape.

Ive may not be an artist but his designs are in art museums around the world
