Yes but also mean additional heatsink (bigger then pcb) is useless it even don't spread heat into that part of heatsink so that mean there will be editions with headsink just to cover pcb (size of pcb)?

So far is seems that all manufacturers who made non-reference cards used long PCB, probably 680's, so no worries for now... but a bit higher temps should maybe influence OC slightly and that is all. I doubt lifespan of the card will be affected anymore then a few %

I wonder if it's worth trading in my 4 580's for some 600 series cards or wait for the 700's.

With the thermal imaging pictures, it seems that for both boards the hottest components are the mosfets. Possibly the reference cooling for the GTX 670 does not cool the mosfets too well?

Heat-pipes are used to spread heat to heat-sink, so it can be longer then the card itself. But that would be stupid and would ruin the concept of short PCB?
