So should I pick one of these up instead of waiting on a 680 to become available?

Well there are some perks for getting a GTX 690. Lower power consumption, less heat, single PCIe slot freeing up space for a sound card, TV tuner, or going quad SLI and much quieter than the 670s in fan noise.

It's also made on higher quality mother board thick PCB, 5 power PWM's per side. Vapor chamber cooling rather than heat sink cooling. Full throttle the 690 dosent see over 50C. Magnesium casing. To top it off with a cherry LED 'GTX GeForce' lighting on the side.

So for all the reasons above $200 is worth the price tag IMO. smile.gif

I simply meant, he could still use his 680 with a 690 and achieve three way SLI with fully enabled GK104 processors. In a total of four slots at that. This is a small advantage over the GTX 670, which at this point in time, needs six slots without liquid cooling.

I had to read that twice ... lol ... but I think I get it ... I am ashamed to admit I am a 1 card kinda guy ... hahaha ...

But thanks for explaining ... ... I think my first SLI config will be the 670's when they hit my country as the 680 is R6500 and the 690 is R12000

One card honestly is generally a better experience.

With that in mind ... Do u recommend a single 670 or a single 680 ... ... After seeing this thread ... I am leaning towards a ref 670 ... just a bit worried bout those temps
