Yea, it's an issue with the folding software though, the card's compute power is higher than a GTX 580. But my next GPU will primarily be for folding, so I'm stuck in a holding pattern until the GK110 comes out, and hopefully it'll be a folding beast.

With the HD 7950 selling at $400, the $350 HD 7870 will need to go down in price as well in order to make room for a price drop. Wondering what the lineup will look like... $250/$300/$350/$400 for the HD 7850, 7870, 7950 and 7970 respectively? Maybe $225/$300/$350/$400?

At any rate, it's good to see Nvidia putting out a card that's actually relevant to keeping prices in check.

Performance per watt is looking pretty good on this card -- it'll be interesting to see whether GCN in a 4-3-3 configuration beats out Kepler when the GTX 660 releases. It probably will, although it's a shame the 7970 wasn't given more shaders in the 4-3-3 config from the beginning. We'll probably see that on the 8970, with more ROPs as well. That card's months out though.

I'm really wondering when AMD will release their 7970 GHz edition. I'm curious as to whether it'll be replacing the 7970 entirely, with a 7950 GHz edition coming later. It's possible that the process has matured enough to allow the 7970 to be clocked higher at stock and stay withing the TDP, and still yield well enough. I may just be dreaming though.

This makes me doubt the availability of the 680, and could this also mean 685 is on the way?

Get one of these, OC it a little and you have a 680 for 100$ less. I'm very tempted.

Good job Nvidia thumb.gif

Remember how the GTX 470 @ 800mhz could match a 480? A bunch of people still bought the 480 over the 470 so I don't understand why so many people are freaking out over getting a 680.

Also, the 470 retailed for $350 and the 480 retailed for $500. Nothing new here really, but its awesome how well the 670 performs.

I know but that's why you'd rather not pick a 7970 for folding.

EVGA has them on their site:

Vanilla GTX670
GTX670 Superclocked
GTX670 FTW

There is also a Galaxy card @ TigerDirect: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2618312&CatId=7387

They aren't up at Newegg yet that I can find.

Reference shroud is a little fugly... but for that sort of performance I guess nobody really cares.
