Would this be a upgrade?

Crucial ballistix tracer 2 x 4gb dual channel ram.

I currently have triple channel ram but its lower rated speed. I do have a x58 chipset though which can utilize triple channel, but running sony vegas and rendering 100% of my ram is always tied up and I don't want to purchase more of this ram since I don't think its very high performance.

this is what i have http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145222

Seems you can utilize triple channel memory rather stick with a quality triple channel kit ... memory is pretty darn cheap now so getting a 3x2gb shouldn't be to expensive

I see these two products for 3x2gb
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=-1&IsNodeId=1&Description=crucial%20ballistix%20tracer&bop=And&CompareItemList=-1|20-148-522^20-148-522-TS%2C20-148-523^20-148-523-TS

But whats the difference? they seem exact same.

I liked the 2x4gb sticks because they were at 1866mhz, do you think the kits in the comparison can get to 1866mhz easily?

Thanks
The difference according to the site is the colors ...

the serials indicate which color scheme the LED's use ...

BLT3KIT4G3D1608DT2TXRG -- Red\Green ... ...
BLT3KIT4G3D1608DT2TXOB -- Orange\Blue ... ...

Here are the links to Crucial's website ... they don't state whether I am correct or not ... but that is how it seems to me ...

Hope this helps.
Regards.

:: EDIT ::

Speeds and latencies are the exact same ...

I would just buy 3 of these below and clock them to 1866 or even 2133mhz easy. I have 4 of these on my 2500k setup and they are running 1866mhz 9-9-9-27 1.425v 1t without issues. thumb.gif

its simple buy a 3x4gb kit and add it to what you have, the intel memory controller will sort it all out for you, its alot smarter than you think.

Definitely smarted than what we think ... but can you run tri-channel with different memory brands and chips ?? ... My research showed that you need the same chips
