It's not midrange when it's the most powerful GPU on the market, now is it? Granted we know that NVIDIA can do better, and that a faster card will come out (maybe late in 2012, but probably not until we're far into 2013), but that's the same with all computer hardware. When the GTX480 came, we knew that the GTX580 would come along.

I couldn't care less what it was designed to be, it performs great and that's what matters to me.

I haven't been able to find a single quote from Nvidia stating that it's mid range nor any quote from a reputable source claiming that it's mid range. It's all rumor and speculation. If they truly had a magic card in their back pocket they probably would have named 670 and 680, 660 and 670 respectively. Regardless, it would be profoundly stupid marketing to claim that it's mid range.
