Chrome is agreeing with Mozilla. In an article on engadget (sorry for not reading the op), It says that both chrome and firefox are not happy with microsofts choice.

Microsoft is the only one who can meet those needs.
Reminds me of "Windows Logo Testing"... I read that Microsoft's own software didn't have to pass it or something like that.. - either way, Microsoft artificially imposed stricter rules on "non-Microsoft" software than on their own software (I don't remember the source at the moment, but I could dig it up)

I seriously don't see the big deal, its a friggen internet browser! What does it matter, I mean, really
Just like netscape, that's the whole reason they even have IE that ships with Windows, otherwise they'd charge for it. It was released for free with windows just to kill Netscapes success as a browser..
I really just don't understand microsofts fascination with everyone HAVING to use their browser, especially when its not up to par with other free browsers.

I read a paper on Microsoft's early practices of "forcing IE" on users (which is debatable, because users can always exercise their choice) and I agree with the author, which basically said that the reason was to protect the Windows monopoly. (Same source as above, I could dig it up if someone wanted to read it)

I don't recall a case when Microsoft made something impossible to do, could you remind me of one? I don't doubt it, I just don't recall. Spreading misinformation and increasing uncertainty about competing software, sure.

Although I'm not sure they will want to, since I bet the EU is already gearing up for a full scale ban Windows tablets.
In any case, its good news for Android. Microsoft seems to be trying to take traditional Windows out of it's tablets, which was the only real threat to Google/Apple. Without that its just Metro, and we all know how well that's faired. If Google can make a push towards normal computing with Jelly Bean they'll have nothing to worry about.
I was thinking about the bold. Since Windows is really not in the tablet market to any real extent (maybe, what, the Acer Iconia W500?), I don't see how MS limiting apps on their arm-based windows 8 platform could be considered anti-competitive (I am assuming this is generally tablets, unless the PC market shifts to ARM processors all of a sudden). MS isn't really present in the tablet market, so wouldn't anti-competitive laws/rules not really apply?

The anti-competitive issues with MS in the past were only an issue because of its presence and dominance in the computer market. Not as much an issue when you don't even have enough of an impact to be a minority, much less a majority.

Screw windows 8, and screw ARM processors as well. Unless everything and everyone suddenly makes the transition to ARM I'll probably never run it in my desktop.

After using firefox on my phone. I can say I'm not all that angry about this.

My experience of firefox on my Android phone has been absolute garbage.

That being said. It's not like they can't optimize it.

Another reason to boycott any Windows 8 tablets. Not like Windows 8 will be any good - I'm not even curious to try it after seeing how the new Explorer (folders) layout is butchered (cut and paste buttons, really?), and the Metro UI isn't any help.

Microsoft isn't YET present in the tablet market. Intel plans on Atom-based Windows 8 tablets, but otherwise Windows 8 tablets will be a "smash hit" (sense the sarcasm) like WP7. How long until the W8 tablet firesale is the only unknown, I give it until December 26 when they surpass 5,000 units in a few months' time.

You think so? Personally, I'm exceptionally disappointed with Android in general (both my tablet and my phone). I have no interest in being subject to Apple's inane user-limitation rules and closed-hardware. I would say that the only reason Android is as popular as it is is only because people dislike Apple products (for one reason or another--whether it's price/cost, or software limitation). Not that I want MS to have a further stronghold on the computing industry, but given the options at the moment, I'd welcome a (competent) Windows (8) based tablet with open arms. It has huge potential, especially now that MS has developed an OS that is touch-friendly.
