[OVER] IRE Summer Deal 2012 - OVER - Page 4

Sweet deal for upgraders or new builders. I have the 970 CPU and 160GB 320 G2 from the two previous deals. I don't think it will be much of an upgrade to get the 3930k and 180GB 520-series SSD. Any thoughts? All I can see for an advantage is more memory use (quad-channel vs tri-channel), unlocked processor capability, and 20GB more SSD space. However, my 970 is stock and I don't do much to justify spending $600 for an upgrade I won't be able to see/feel except on benchmarks.

If your at stock then you obviously don't care about the gains that much. You would see far more performance overclocking the 970 then you would see running a 3930K at stock. So for the fact you have to buy a motherboard for you I might not be a good time to upgrade. It's really a good deal. But it would be really not that much of a boost.

As for the SSD I was looking at some deals I have seen 180gb 520 SSD for almost the same price before it's not that great of a deal. Plus it's a sandforce drive. I would much rather pickup a m4 or Samsung 830 - 256gb drive even at current pricing. They are cheap and you probably will $199 soon as a common price for 256gb drives with marvel controllers.

I think the SSD deal was just added as a appeasement to other peoples request. Or to offload some sandforce drives.

The deal you got on the 160gb drive when it was on was a far better deal at the time.

Is the 3930k a side-grade from a 2700k? Benchmarks seem to indicate as such. Trying to debate if I should up/side-grade or make a build for a family member with this.

The 3830k would be a side-grade. The 3930k would be more of an upgrade from 4 cores to 6 cores.

It is a side grade, but if you can sell the motherboard/cpu its worth it.

If all u do is gaming, its not going to be an upgrade. But at this price, it is def worth it.

3820*

The 3930K is basically a slower clocked 3960X missing 3MB of cache.

It's a steal at this price, though not everyone will see a difference in their day to day activities while using one.

I'm getting one biggrin.gif

I'm so damn mad I don't have a way to get into this... I already have a 3820 and would ditch it in a hearbeat if I could get the 3930.
