I've been thinking about getting an i5 setup for a while now, as i need a LARGE jump in power. Would a 1090t suffice?

or

Should i sell my current cpu + mobo and go intel? Could i get a good intel + mobo setup for under $250?

well the cost of a I5 and a cheep board would be about 250.00 and your not going to get more of a performance boost over going with a 1090T or a 960T and over clocking it as far as you can on the board you have you have about the same level of performance with eatherprice wise the 960 is the cheepist next would be the 1090T then the most would be the Intel path all will performe at the same level

It really depends on what you're looking to do. Video encoding, gaming? A 960 + a 6870 or similar should have no issues on most games @ 1080p on high.

i agree for what you want a 960T should do nicely.. if you want to go intel wait a year for the next tock and go with a haswell and lga1150 socket mobo..

The Phenom II 960's are going pretty cheap right now so why not grab one of them, overclock its guts out and see if that does the job for you. If it does, then you just saved yourself a few bucks. If not, you can always sell it and go Intel. For gaming, an overclocked 960 is a very formidable and capable processor. Paired with a stout video card, itll give you great performance.

Wouldn't consider Intel, get an APU would be the most cost effective solution IMO

If your spending money...
And want a LARGE increase in power...
Jump ship imo

I mean how often do you like to upgrade?
Because that GTX 275 is nearly half the performance of a GTX460, so my advice would be upgrade GPU first and then see how the performance is in games?

Sorry missed where you said gaming there. As I said earlier a 960T's unlock to a 6 core typically paired with a good video card is potent setup. My 955 + 6950 can easily run BF3 on high.

Im very happy with my 960t, but if I had the money, I would get a new mobo and a 2500k. But if you do, definitely wait a while. With Ivy Bridge out, Sandy Bridge prices should come down I would think. While you're waiting, upgrade your GPU. Like everyone else said, doesn't make sense to upgrade your CPU at all without a better GPU. Not for gaming anyway.

I wouldn't bet on it. Core 2 prices stayed pretty high when the first i7's came out and when Sandy Bridge games out, the old i7's still didn't come down much. If you want to jump to Intel, might as well just do it now. It may be a loooong while before SB comes down any.

That is an incredibly false statement. A 460 is maybe +/- 5% quicker across the board. Only thing it has is DX11. Going from a 275 to a 460 is like going from a 8500gt, to a 9500gt.
