If I had bought the 7950 and didnt play a crapload of metro , avp , and crysis (I dont play any of these at all if your wondering) , I would be stabbing myself in the face right now. I was so dissapointed in the 7970 , and have been so amazed by the 670 , especially at $399.

So you don't play crysis neither metro, what the hell you are doing here? That's the only 2 games that possibly gonna put to stress this year your shinny 670 card. If you bought this card for something else then my friend you just waste your money.

I think BF3 is still faster on HD 7970 clock for clock especially at higher res. So depends on where you are getting your info and do you believe it.

a 1175 Mhz HD 7950 will win more games wrt 1250 GTX 670. It depends on things like exact game level being tested and settings at which tested. Since I wanted to show OC perf I have chosen both cards OC'd.

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/05/10/nvidia_geforce_gtx_670_video_card_review/7

BF3 Ultra 2X MSAA 2560 x 1600
XFX HD 7950 (1195) - avg 54.2 min 35

BF3 Ultra FXAA high 2560 x 1600
GTX 670 (1234) - avg 58.1 min 36

I am inclined to believe HD 7950 OC is better given its at 2X MSAA whereas GTX 670 is at FXAA high. bandwidth becomes a factor at high GPU clock speeds and very high res with high image quality settings. Even if you want to call it a tie I wouldn't object.

Skyrim

2560 X 1600 MSAA8X + FXAA (marginal HD 7950 OC win or tie)

XFX HD 7950 OC (1195) - avg 79.5 min 30
GTX 670 (1234) - avg 74.5 min 29

Deus Ex - 2560 x 1600 FXAA high

XFX HD 7950 OC ( 900 ) - avg 65.6 min 33
GTX 670 (980 boost) - avg 58.9 min 36

At max OC Deus Ex will be a clear win for HD 7950 OC over GTX 670 OC.

Batman AC

2560 X 1600 FXAA

HD 7950 (800 ) - avg 36.7 fps min 18
HD 7950 OC (900 ) - avg 40.5 fps min 19
HD 7950 OC (1195) - avg 50.5 fps min 19
GTX 670 - avg 44.7 fps min 28
GTX 670 (1234) - avg 49.7 fps min 30

Runs clearly better on GTX 670 given the much better min fps.

Alan Wake

http://www.hardware.fr/articles/866-9/benchmark-alan-ake.html

1080p max
HD 7950 - 50 fps
GTX 670 - 42 fps

will be much faster on HD 7950 OC compared to GTX 670 OC given more clock headroom.

Witcher 2 - HD 7950 OC will be faster than GTX 670 OC given that HD 7950 (800) wins against GTX 670 (980 Mhz ).

http://www.hardware.fr/articles/866-18/benchmark-the-witcher-2-enhanced-edition.html

1080P UBERSAMPLING OFF
HD 7950 - 59
GTX 670 - 54

Crysis 2
2560 X 1600 Ultra 4xaa (DX 11 with high res textures)

http://www.guru3d.com/article/powercolor-radeon-hd-7950-pcs-review/24
http://www.guru3d.com/article/asus-geforce-gtx-670-directcu-ii-top-review/23

HD 7950 (1150) - 43
GTX 670 (1280) - 40

faster on HD 7950 OC

Shogun 2 - faster on HD 7950 OC (because of latest patch issue crippling Nvidia perf) .

http://www.hardware.fr/articles/866-19/benchmark-total-war-shogun-2.html

Out of these 8 games released in the last 12 months GTX 670 OC wins Batman AC clearly. BF3, Skyrim can be called a tie. Deus Ex, Witcher 2, Alan Wake, Crysis 2 are in favour of HD 7950 OC . Older games like Metro and Crysis games (1 / warhead ) run faster on HD 7950 OC than GTX 670 OC . There is no doubt about that.

GTX 670's major advantage will be power consumption. But for a person looking at maximum performance and spending USD 400 on a card I think that is of lesser priority. For those who want perf with lower power GTX 670 is the better option. For those who want maximum performance its better to get a good HD 7950 OC edition card and OC the heck out of it. biggrin.gif

"The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 had a hand up in performance on the stock Sapphire HD 7970 in every game. The Overclocked Sapphire HD 7970 OC Edition crushed the GeForce GTX 680 though in every game providing the best performance and gameplay experience"

I wouldn't think for a sec. I would pay the extra 40 bucks and get the HD 7970 OC. But if you feel 40 bucks is bit too much still you cannot go wrong with the Sapphire HD 7950 OC (950 ) smile.gif

Air cooled, the 670 is the better deal. If you're watercooling, I'm leaning more towards the 7950 simply because of being able to push higher voltages.

GTX 670 is not only faster. Nvidia GPU's have better drivers and support PhysX

You can read more about it here
It out performes the 7950 in every way tho using about the same power. It outperformes the 7970 in a lot of things too and once overclocked it can be as fast as a 680 GTX.. all this at 399$ shipped (From amazon)
Honestly, unless the price drops 50$ there is no reason to even
consider getting a 7950.

Wrong. The 670 is better than the 7950 not the 7970. XFX 7970 is the most stable at 1250 but the MSI Lightning overclocks the best. If you really want to OC a GPU then but the MSI Lightning 7970. Fastest OC around. I've heard up to 1400 and faster. Expensive though, fyi.

I would probably go for the 670. Just looking at benchmarks for the 680 vs 670, the're incredibly close which makes me now question getting the 680 as my next upgrade.

They're over £100 more expensive here in the UK. Works out about $160ish
