Vertically Adjustable Vesa Mount

Thread Starter
Looking for suggestions on a vesa mount that can be adjusted vertically about 20" after being mounted, that is easy to adjust since it will be used to lower an imac in front of some other monitors multiple times daily. This doesn't seem to be common and I imagine it will have to be somewhat expensive due to the internal hydraulics to hold up a 20.5lb imac. Having trouble finding anything but the closest I have come are some track mounts, however, I don't know how easy it is to adjust those. I am afraid I am going to have to build something. Any suggestions would be great, thanks!

I was going to suggest an Ergotron LX wall mount, but then saw you needed 20" of vertical travel, so I found this, the Ergotron Interactive Arm HD.

It says it has 20" vertical and 17.5" horizontal adjustment. Ergotron also has the Interactive Arm LD which has 13" of vertical travel.

Here's their site if you want to look around and see if something else will work.

It's a little pricey, but I have 4 of the LX desk mounts and can say unconditionally that the quality is outstanding.

Just my 2c worth...hope it helps,

Rich

That is exactly what I was looking for. For the price though I think I can get away with the 13" one, however, the imac weights 20.5lbs and that is only rated to 20. Generally things like that have a margin of error, do you, in your unofficial opinion of course, think that it could handle the extra half pound?

I would think so.

If the tension adjustments are the same, you can torque them down quite a bit. From what I can see on their site, it uses the same type of spring system, for lack of a better term as the LX that I have (I think it's called their "patented Constant Force Technology"). This helps counter the weight of the monitor, so that you don't have to tighten the arm down as much. So in the end, you might have to keep it a little tighter which means it won't move up and down as effortlessly. In my mind, the weight limit is more for this than in regards to what the bracket can actually hold before failing. Just make sure it's mounted good to the wall. rolleyes.gif

On mine, I can move my monitors around my desk with just a finger under the edge. I have the angle set tight, but the arms themselves are at factory settings.

I didn't see it earlier, but it looks like Amazon carries the smaller one also, for $90.

I suppose you could always give it a shot and return it if it didn't meet your specs.

As always, YMMV...GL and post pics if you get one...
