[Kotaku] Steam vouchers soon to be available at gamestop - Page 2

This is a great idea. Now I can get something in hand to give to friends at their b'day parties instead of saying "uhh yeah check your email"

This could be a good idea as long as it doesnt phase out a physical edition of the game. What valve can do is offer the digital edition for $10-$20 cheaper to give people more choices, since I personally think that digital copies shouldnt be the full 59.99.

While I agree that I feel digital should be cheaper my guess is the true cost of them producing a box, disc, manual is very little. Likely only a few dollars.

Not sure how making the digital edition $20 cheaper adds more choices, it removes the physical edition choice for a lot of people.

Look around you can usually get a game for less than 60$ on release at other dd stores, steam is always more expensive for new or upcoming releases

well technically you are not receiving the physical aspect of the game ie manuals, disc, jewel case, and the occasional collectors items (witcher 2) So I do think having it cheaper will be a better option, those who like physical discs will get what they pay for.

They just recently started selling digital games in the physical stores (unless I misread the e-mail about that). So there is some push towards their digital platform.

I'm guessing this is really just another revenue stream, I mean, when Gamestop bought out Impulse they started selling steamworks games so clearly they believe there is some money to be made there.

I just walked by a game stop and noticed they were already on sale. The sign said "Over 1500 Games that are ALWAYS in stock"
