Just intalled 5050 RGB LEDs into my PHANTOM 410.

I started on my case not long ago, I dont have any other parts in there yet. I ordered 5m of rgb strip lighting from ebay LINK, and an extra control box + remote, figure I could get two colors going at once or one at a time instead of having to settle for fan's with leds that can't be turned off. I had to cut and extend the strips in places which involves soldering 4 wires off each strip to connect to the next, this was my first time soldering, thank got for shrink tubing to hide my mistakes. Here is a close up of the joint between two strips before cutting them and soldering...

And here is how I set them up. There are two control boxes, one for the lights inside the case, which I ran along the inner perimeter, and the others for the top and front vents of the case. Here are some photos.

and here are some random colors....they are pretty versatile since either or both can be turned off, have brightness control and even different fades and custom colors. even though there are two control boxes they both use the same remote, so I had to put separate the two IR wires from each box.

- sorry about the window, I started cutting it with a dremel and felt like a cave man, Got my jigsaw now to finish it up tomorrow.

Thanks! The macro shot is with a Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro lens, on a 50d Body. The others with a normal 18-55 kit lens.

I am thinking of getting something like this, the phoyba unit it sold out everywhere.

how does this unti recieve power? do you need to plug it into a wall?

Looking at getting this for my HAF 932.. Where did you get the extra transformer from?
I'm thinking I'd stick to a singular color though, seeing as some of my fans are LED.

EDIT: $29 shipping.. No thanks

Looking around on Australian eBay, looks like there are two sellers that sell them on a bidding basis.. Sigh, let's hope i win one! tongue.gif

Yes, it needs an AC wall brick

I've seen mods where people bypass the transformer and solder the control box straight into a molex power junction, basically using one of the molex power connectors that come with fans. After having the case, do you think this would be feasible?

- these are called 5050 LEDs I got them on eBay shipped for $23. It came with a control box, a 44 key remote and 5 meters of led strip. Dont make the same mistake I did, basically I ordered 3030 LEDs which have a red blue and green led beside eachother rather than all 3 in one chip. Luckily the seller was happy to change it as long as I upgraded to 5050. If you bid you may get them for less but so far it's been $20-$30 winning bids. The second control box and remote was $5 shipped.

In terms of wiring I did not want to plug them in outside my case so I save some money on the transformer/adapter and it looks cleaner. They run off 12v and like the above poster mentioned the power can be drawn from any 12v molex. I out the red to yellow black to blackwith tape for now. In the future I will sacrifice what's lefts of my modular cables and solder the wires permanently. Thanks to this forum I knew to do that haha. Soldering was tight though I have steady hands but it was a challenge not to cross solder joints since there's less than 1mm between leads.

Hopefully I'll win that contest and add some real components to my rig!

thankyou! It was a fun project, now I'm trying to figure out where else I can put LEDs.... thinking of putting some on my bike if I can find a decent power set up (maybe some pedal power).

How big are the control boxes? Do you have them mounted or are they just sitting in the case for now?
