[MacRumors] 7-Inch iPad with Retina Display Coming in October Priced at $200-$250? - Page 2

$299 is the bare minimum. There's already a bunch of great $200-$250 7" tablets, and by October they'll likely all have quad cores with retina displays. No way Apple is going to price their product competitively.

Not at that price, no, but there's a market for both; the iPod touch 5 16GB at $199 and the 16GB 7 inch iPad at $299, many will still opt for the iPod touch due to the portability and it's still cheaper. (They could drop the 4 to $149 too.) It's quite possible that the iPod touch will offer a 128GB model and they'll discontinue the iPod classic.

I want to see all the single core iDevices discontinued tongue.gif

You're not thinking about it right... it's not about whether Apple is going to price it competitively (although I'd argue the iPad is already) but whether or not they're going to try and crush the market which I think you'd agree is quite Apple-like.

Not really. The closest Apple has ever gotten to pricing the competition out is the Apple TV. Everything else, the iPhones, iPads, iPods, Macbooks, iMacs, Mac Pros, even down to their peripherals and accessories has cost more simply because there's an Apple logo on it. They use their marketing and reality distortion field to get people to spend more than they should.

All competitors (of the same league) are either as cheap or more expensive; Apple iPad is very competitively priced.

Macbook Air:

Some competitors are more expensive, some are cheaper; but overall, Apple definitely remains competitive. You also have to take into account that Mac OS X comes with more pre-included usable software than Windows. Apple also has educational pricing, and in the summer the "Back to School" promotional gifts. These two together make the MBA even more competitive.

Additionally, at its release, the MBA was the cheapest ultraportable.

The iPhone is also comparable to other phones with the same MSRP, albeit with a bit of a disadvantage in screen size.

The difference is that the iPad is the only market Apple has essentially created (by that I mean tablets were a niche before) and they're dominating it, if they're able to create a budget iPad which is capable but cheap enough to lure away anyone interested in any other slate, then I reckon they'd do it -- maybe not for $200 but for $300 for sure.

The iPhone, iPad and iPod are all competitively priced, as is the iMac and MacBook Air. The Mac Pro is... well outdated, and the MacBook Pro you're paying a premium for battery life.

The single processor Mac Pro is over priced..but as soon as you move to DP it falls in line with the competition..

This. I'm curious as to what Amazon's going to do.
