GTX690 vs GTX680 4Gb - Page 2

vRAM usage is entirely dependent on quality settings and AA, and completely independent of FPS. So yes, you were lied to.

Thanks for clarifying, 4gb may still be useful for me as I might invest in multiple screens in the future.

furthermore, frostbite 2 and cryengine 3.4 is still consider new so 1/2 680 or 1 690 is enough for now unless you are doing something else other than gaming like benching or folding
it doesnt matter 2/4gb cause you only run single 120hz monitor unless you are talking about triple monitor so single 4gb is enough.

I prefer to avoid sli/crossfire if possible. It shouldn't be problematic but there are FEW games that don't support it and I'm a minimalist, less is more to me.

Well, if you get a 690, you're still running a SLI setup. It's just that now instead of the SLI setup being on two different cards, it's on the same card.

Don't wait for "right around the corner" you will end up waiting for ever as new tech comes out all the time.

Since you were hung up on the witcher 2 performance you are in for a hard time, as witcher 2 with ubersampling eats any gpu solution atm. There is a thread somewhere in the gaming section here where someone with crossfire 7970's are getting owned by ubersampling.

If it was 60hz I would say one 680 but if you are wanting full 80-120fps you will need to go sli sadly.
Still one 4gb 680 is not to shabby at all tongue.gif Everything but witcher 2 with uber and bf3 with 64 players will be butter smooth.

How do you think GTX690 will fare with ubersampling??

Yes, I want 80-120fps preferably but if I can play all but the top handful at around that and have games like Wicher2 run at ~50-60fps I'm not complaining (too much ;P).
