[VR-Zone] Ivy Bridge proven to suffer from poor thermal grease - Page 3

hopefully they change this for Haswell

If true, the 3770k should have a much better thermal compund. The 3770 can stay as is. It is fine at stock speed but Intel, let the enthusiasts push your products as far as they should go. When paying a 80$ extra to get a virtual software multiplier unlock, can't we get 5$ of decent thermal compound. I'll pay 10-15$ for it without hesitating.

I thought there were already multiple tests done with the IHS off and it showed no improvment? Intel even said they knew the heat increase due to the die shrink.

Regardless of the direct cause, there's a huge difference between the thermal conductivity of thermal paste and solder.

Why can no-one do a proper, conclusive, undeniable, solid, throughout test with these chips ?!?

I'm sick off these contradicting messages...
No way that changing that tim gives a 20C difference, i will believe this when another site gets similar results.

I'm sick off these contradicting messages...
because these chips are so individually different from eachother, one chip might run at complete different speeds/volts/temps(even at the same speeds/volts) on the same coolers/fans whatever. people have done reviews, but the results are so different from eachother because of the difference in between chips.

either way, i have my doubts about this because of the tests done without an ihs. unless the people that did those tests were really stupid and didnt know how to(which i doubt). they might have gotten these results but then again they might have had a superbad mount on the first/perfect mount on the results with a different TIM. it is definately an intresting subject though, if i were a bit more experienced with delidding chips.... maybe sometime in the future though smile.gif
