[battlefieldo]BF3 New DLC, Content Service, and Double XP Weekend - Page 12

You are not seeing the big picture here.

It's not just the DLC that has people upset. its more a culmination of all of the things that have happened from pre launch to today. Pre launch there was very little information being given out about the game. There was no mention that there would be no squad voip, which was a staple of BF2 and 2142. They removed commander, shrunk squad sizes. They promised the largest BF maps ever and delivered 1 map that would have been a medium/large map on BF2.

They force people to have 3 programs running in order to run BF3 and a fourth if you wanted to talk to anyone, and then a fifth if you were using TS/Mumble etc. They purported that the community was in for 6 months of aggressive DLC and the only thing thus far was B2K which ended up being smurfed versions of the original maps. They promised amazing destruction, and yet the destruction is not even close to being equal to that displayed in trailers. They said that battlelog was going to usefull for being able to quickly run updates and patches and news..yet what have we had..1-2 patch? and must of the "news" are via twitter.

They said all the way through until after launch that PC was the lead platform and then after launch admitted that half way through development pc was put on the back burner. They stated that they wanted to beat COD and by shrinking the size of the maps and making it more of a fast twitch shooter they hope to acquire more COD fans. (Side note) Operation flashpoint tried this with that cluster F*!% Red River..how'd that work for them...they completely lost their core fans and killed the series. They created battelog to release official announcements but rarely use it. I have a feeling that people are more frustrated with the fact that a game series that was unique amongst the plethora of fast paced twitch reaction shooters is being moved in the direction of those game which COD has become synomous with. COD naturally becomes the comparison b/c it is the top dog of that genre and the one that EA/DICE has claimed they are trying to top. There is no game out there currently that offers the experience that previous BF games did. BF3 isn't a bad game perse, however I think it would have had less complaints if it were released as BC3 or MOH2. Those games, as far as over all game play and style had more in common with this than BF2 does.

Expansion - Noun: The action of becoming larger or more extensive.

DLC means nothing other than the fact that it's content that can be downloaded. You're kind of just proving my point that people just hate the term DLC and the moment it is said, whatever it being talked about is labeled as bad. It's rather silly.

Please point out what exactly was exaggerated in his post. His post touches on the sentiments of many Battlefield veterans.

And here I was, happy for the double XP weekend...

They could at least have given us a reason why they had to cancel it!

You are 100% right my friend. I will say battlelog is THE biggest cluster Fu@# of all time for any game I've ever played. What a freaking disaster of an idea.

The game's already been out for awhile... who hasn't already reached all the unlocks and rank 45 Colonel? If your a try hard trying to reach 145, that's a different story.

They saw how well it worked for bc2 and figured they didn't need it. For the most part i'm sure people don't mind using their own programs or just talk to everyone on the team.

Weird because cod fans still don't like the size of maps and reaction time which is still very noticeably slower than COD. Not to mention MOH was their answer to COD and is more of the twich action shooter

There will be always be complaints whether you like it or not, from the haters, critics, fans, non-fans etc.

Not to mention their a business and have to compete. The COD model was successful so its only natural to follow suit. However the maps are still huge compared to anything in COD and still a very different experience from it and plus the reaction time is far enough to make it a different game all together.

Yea, more content for games always suck! Why can't we just get a game, and it not have any updates or extra content. Like the good 'ole days. rolleyes.gif

and a perfect PC exclusive from day 1. Every random idea must be taken seriously by DICE, or else they suck.

Honestly, the only thing I can see being upset about is Battlefield Premium, and even then it's not that big of a deal. It's supposed to be a bunch of aesthetic stuff that has no real effect on game-play. It's not going to give premium users any form upper-hand and it's certainly not going to split the community like CoD Elite does.
As for DLC.. Why are people so upset about this? They're expansion packs.. They're adding more content and it's no different from BF2 expansion packs. Why are we expecting to get the stuff for free? It's like the moment it gets titled DLC it's automatically a bad thing.
Just want to say.. Another DLC would just make me that much more happy. It means they plan on supporting the game for even longer. I was sad when I heard End-game thinking that would be the last of it.

red alert 3: uprising or even the red alert 2: yuri's revenge were real expansion packs.... those bf3 dlc's are glorified map packs ...

and we didnt even pay 15$ for the red alert 3 expansion.. yet it gave us challenges... new units new maps and new single player missions...

Your definition is incomplete and irrelevant to our discussion. You want to know what an expansion is? Heart of the Swarm is an expansion. Brood War was an expansion. The expansion packs for Red Alert 2, 3 and other C&C games were expansion packs. These little micro transaction content packs are not expansions. They were not expansion packs back in the BF2 days and they are not now.

I mean do you have any idea how little work it takes to make these once they already have the engine and tools created? Its essentially copy and paste with a few parameters changed for new weapons. Then all they need to do is test for glitches and rake in the profit.

Heck they won't even let me buy the pack once for both platforms I play on, they force me to buy it for PC and PS3 at the same time. Battlelog is cross platform so why are the licences for the DLC not?
