And I just RMA'd my mobo yesterday. I could of dealt with a couple dead USB ports for a weekend.

We don't even officially know if Close Quarters/the rest of the upcoming expansions will even cost us anything yet.

I see what you did there. The title says "DICE will never charge for maps", but the source says "We don't want to". Article twists the truth a little.

They're not just maps though. They're expansions.

If we treat BF2s expansions as just map packs with extra weapons and vehicles, then they basically have charged us for maps in the past and everyone got on just fine.

While this still isn't official (this is just coming from a "reliable source") it goes to show that B3 really is leaning towards what everyone has been complaining about; it being a money-milking title like COD where they're just slowly releasing small bits of content to keep charging $15 here and there for new maps/weapons/skins. So unfortunate to see a great series break into a downwards spiral just like the COD franchise has. DICE promised BF3 wouldn't be just like BF2 nor just like BC2. It sure isn't, and in a bad way if this premium service rumor holds true. Way to lose your fanbase, EA. GLHF with BC3/BF4, I likely won't buy them, though I'm sure that won't mean horse dung to them with how much they're going to milk BF3.
I AM happy for double XP weekend. I'll still be playing.

Yep, DICE said they wouldn't be charging for map packs, either. They said "we might be owned by EA but we're still DICE" and lo'behold they charge for map packs.

Who is the source for the source anyway?

We've got some exclusive (unofficial, but from a very reliable source) news and some new dates for you all.
O'rly, some unofficial, unconfirmed "news"? This is for the rumors section.
According to the news article (with no source) premium sounds like a pointless waste of time for both DICE and customers if that's all its about but I'll wait for some official info before I judge.
If they discount all the expansions (possible 20 maps/50 weapons total if they carry on their current philosophy of expansions of 4 maps and 2 new weapons per class plus 2 all class weapons) for a very reasonable monthly fee, plus some other stuff they are promising in terms of customisation then MAYBE.
i.e
£30/year = £3.30/month = Basically getting all the five upcoming expansions and other stuff for £6 each which is a price many people wouldn't mind paying for them considering it's about half the price of B2K.
Even if it's £40/year, it could be looked at as basically £8 per expansion including whatever other freebies they'd give away, which is still a good saving.
For people who were planning on buying all the packs, this would be a good deal.
Otherwise, I don't really see how they are going to make it work for people to pay them premiums for customisation and the like.
Then again, this "news" has no source, so we wont know exactly *** is going on till someone gives us some official news.

Expected post is very expected rolleyes.gif

If true... oh well.

I loved BF3 when it first came out, now I play it maybe 3 hours a month at most. But I guess I get bored of playing the same maps over and over and over and over.

As long as "unique in-game items" are purely aesthetic, I have no issue with them.

It’s mainly a map pack with some guns thrown in so they can call it an expansion pack. If they try to call it a map pack the comment they made during bc2 “we will never charge for maps” would come back to haunt them.

Sounds like you've never tried a majority of the guns. After the update a lot of those guns that "pretty much suck" are now incredibly good. The new SKS is a monster, as well as the G3A3. The QBZ-95B is incredibly good, as well as the QBB-95 and the MG36. The L85A2 was for a period and still is one of the most accurate ARs in the game. I'm in the process of getting every primary to 100 kills to see how each gun works, and have yet to run into a gun that "pretty much sucks," rather I run into guns who are very good for different things.

QBZ-95B with a heavy barrel - Engi SMG that shoots like a laser if you can use it right.

QBB-95 + heavy barrel - Support LMG that also shoots like a laser

If you want to know the strengths of any weapon, just ask. I'm not about to list every gun and its strengths.

Remember that if you are basing your opinions on the guns on pre-patch experiences, things have changed very much.

I go here for gun information, http://symthic.com/charts.php

I do like the L85A2 and the G3, but when it comes to the best all around weapon for assault that lands on the M16A3.

In your opinion.

My most used guns are the F2000, MP7 and UMP-45. The last two of which people often moan or moaned about needing buffs.

However, there is no weapon in the game that "sucks" when used properly.

The MP7 might "suck" to some people, but with the fastest firing rate, fast reload time and extended mag+ammo spec, I always rely on it for close quarters.
