This is good point. I'm not exactly AMD fan nowadays but hopefully next gen consoles will bring them loads of profit for increased R&D budget and they start to compete against Intel CPU's in enthusiast sector also. I miss the Athlon 64 days when AMD was the best choice for gaming.

This.
Of course profits are going to be lower when you are on the bubble of releasing something new. Consumers were simply waiting for the new stuff to come out.

I know! The good old days, when new processes weren't such hard to master and competition was fierce. Well, the good semi-old days, because before that was the bad old days of Nvidia dominance leading to limited choice and really high prices.

lol, article is stupid. Shares, shareholders and share prices are what matters. Revenue supplements these, NOT profit. Not to mention they probably reported all the loses of new architecture(gtx 600 series) and have yet to release the entire series....basically, they're going to have a much, much lower overhead in the coming quarters and i'd expect a nice raise in profits as well come Q4-2013Q1

Reference AMD cards are usually slightly louder and cooler than nvidia cards, at least that is what I've seen. The coolers aren't bad, Nvidia's driver team is just more comfortable with higher temps than AMD's, I guess.
Easily fixed with MSI afterburner + custom fan profile.

5870vsGTX470
6970vsGTX570
7970vsGTX670

I've been hearing about "horrible drivers" for years. I've only ever had one problem I couldn't fix with ATI's drivers, but that was several years ago with a 3870 and was likely vista's fault anyway. I guess I am just more tolerant of little quirks than others, since I'd say AMD's drivers are perfectly adequate. I don't have a 7xxx series card yet, so I can't speak on those, just on the cards I've actually had personal experience with(9800, 3870, 4830, 5750). It might help that I always buy cards that are at least 6 months old.
