Fastest single SSD 128/256Gb? (no RAID)

Thread Starter
Planning on moving my Crucial M4 128 GB into one of my secondary systems.

What it the fastest current single drive SSD that's out? Capacity 128 or 256 GB (depends on price).

thanks

Vertex 4 256Gb would be the fastest drive currently available in that storage capacity. However the 512Gb version offers even better Write performance.

However even current SF2281 Drives based on 25nm or the 34nm process should offer similar performance to the Vertex 4.

Even without TRIM, the SanDisk Extreme was a good performer, but with TRIM working, we can say that this is the not only the highest performing SandForce drive on the market, but this is the highest performing consumer SSD regardless of controller.

The Vantage score of over 85,000 was very impressive, but even more impressive is how the Extreme is able to carry the performance over to when data is present.

Nope the Sandisk Extreme is king wink.gif

That article is dated March 14, and the Vertex 4 didn't come out until April 4. So I don't think that's 100%.

I'm in the market for a 256 as well...and the Vertex 4 appears to be the frontrunner, but I have such a hesitation to buy anything OCZ. Such a terrible track record (especially for SSD's).

Check guru 3ds review of the vertex 4 it says it is just on par with the vertex 3 with some new features.

also again..

Very cool, I'm glad to hear that the OCZ isn't the fastest. Makes my internal bias feel justified.

(Wasn't trying to call you out or anything, just noticed the dates on the article you linked)

+rep for the info smile.gif

After reading the above article:
The Sandisk 240GB SSD Extreme is a bit faster than Plextor M3 Pro 256GB and about ~$50 cheaper but I worry that it might BSoD.
(The Sandisk 120GB is not faster than 128GB Plextor M3 Pro or Cosair Performance Pro)
http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/4613/24nm_flash_ssd_faceoff_sandisk_extreme_retake_and_plextor_m3_pro/index8.html
http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/4712/ocz_vertex_4_128gb_solid_state_drive_review_with_1_4_r6_firmware/index9.html

I can easily swap files from my HDD to 128GB SSD on my Desktop and it's cheaper but
for my Laptop, has only space for 1 SSD or HDD and that is where a bigger 240GB+ SSD comes in.

If my 128GB desktop SSD expires after 5 years of swapping 40GB per day then I can get another at a cheaper price, larger capacity and faster speeds.

I don't look at reviews for the 120s gb ssd cause i don't have one.

The cost of the 240gb vs the cost of the 120gb plus the performance gain makes paying the extra 80$ = 100 much more worth it.

Bsod? Sanddisk is the biggest storage company in the world and sandforce is theres.. There drives are always going to get the best stuff.. "they made a kinda bad name with the ultra series but that was there first release of a ssd now witht he extreme the bugs have been fixed and the drive is made much much better"

I have no issues works 100% flawless to have a HQ built ssd and be worry free is a great feeling.
