First time build by newbie - probly makes no sense

Thread Starter
Hello All,

This is my first build, I used to get sweaty changing my graphics card so bear with me. This build probly makes no sense but the main purpose of it is to primarily play games, however I would like to do some folding and just because I can (ie. hobby). I hope to assemble it myself and overclock it too (once I figure out how to doh.gif).

Anyway proposed specs are :

Case
Corsair Obsidian 650D
Corsair Obisidian 650D mesh side panel
Lian Li UC-01 USB3.0 to 20-Pin Converter
DEMCiflex Corsair 650D magnetic dust fan filter side piece

CPU
Intel Core i7 3770K (If I OC to 4.5 GHz I will be happy smile.gif)

Motherboard
Gigabyte G1 Sniper 3

RAM
GEIL 16GB kit (2x8GB) DDR3 EVO CORSA C9 1866MHZ

GPU
Gigabyte GTX 580 SOC which I already have. (I plan to SLi a couple of EVGA 680 FTW 4GB when I can get my hands on them)

Cooling
Corsair H100 Hydro
Bitfenix Spectre Pro 230mm (Black)- intake
Xigmatek XAF-F1451 140mm (Black) - rear exhaust
4 x Delta FFB1212EH-PWM 120mm - push-pull for h100 exhausting at top
Corsair Link Cooling and Lighting kit - I wanna play with bling

Power Supply
Corsair HX1050W

Storage
2 x Intel 520 240GB in Raid 0
Western Digital Black Caviar 2TB

Optical drive
Pioneer Blu-Ray writer 12x (BDR-207DBKS)

Cables
NZXT Single Sleeve Front Panel Connections Cable Set (Black)
4 x BitFenx Sleeved SATA III Cable (Green)

I am going for the green highlight look inside, hence the green cables and will get the fans sleeved in green too.
One question is, is it worth getting a dedicated raid controller or will the one on my mobo be sufficient? I understand the Intel SSD Raid firmware has not come out yet and am waiting for it.
Have I missed anything out? Any constructive feedback is welcome and yes I have completely missed the best price:performance points but as I said, this is for fun too.

Cheers,

Bo0GeRs cheers.gif

This build looks good, and your motherboard can handle a simple raid setup.

Where are you buying from, and going single 580 to SLI 680's one day, grab a 750w PSU, also 8GB DIMM's aren't worth the price, AT ALL. Go with 2x4 or 4x4 if you want/need 16GB of memory for some reason.

The ASRock Z77 Extreme4 is only $130 atm, I'd go with that if buying from USA.

Between the HX1050 and 8GB Dimm's, you are quite literally throwing away $200+

I am buying from Perth, Australia. Nearest city is Adelaide which is over 3000km away.

Reason for the Geil RAM is my local shop only sells the 8GB DIMMs and no 4x4 sets. I picked the Geil Evo Corsa as they as the greenest coloured RAM I can find.

Reason for the Gigabyte sniper is cause its green coloured, but also because one of few Z77 motherboards where I can put my H100 in push-pull in 650D case. It has no ATX ports at the top.

As to the power supply, the next model down is the 750W and only $60 difference at my local shop. Rather spend the $60 so I can stick as many video cards as I can SLi and overclock everything I can.

Cheers,

I dig the green highlight idea... Makes me think of old-skool 3D wireframes
