I would say just keep on bugging them. I was lucky that I did have two 5870's so I was able to get by with my working one but I can understand how much more worse it would be if that was my only working card.

Update 5:

So I just got off the phone with Asus once again and I guess, like I mentioned in my previous posts, that I was now talking to someone that actually had some power to do something. Anyways, he said that he would correct the problem and sure enough they didn't have any 5870's that matched my card so he suggested a 6870. Thank god I asked earlier what would be a correct card for a better generation because I told him that was actually a down step from my card and that he could look up any benchmarks on the web to find that. So he conceded eventually and went to talk to his parts person again.

Next he came back on the phone and said that he would ship me a 6970 DirectCu2. I said that sounds great. He send me an express label so I should have the card by next week and be able to give it a test. He said that he would test it before hand but I already received one bad card!

Hopefully this is the LAST RMA about this card. To bad it is after 6 my time so I can't ship it today.

yeah I wouldn't have settled for a 6870 either, it's close in multi gpu setups but it is certainly not as good a single card as a 5870.

The 6970 will be a nice upgrade for sure thumb.gif

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. I won't be able to crossfire but I think I might sell my other 5870 anyways. I really don't have any high demanding games anymore that the 6970 shouldn't be able to run.

for a 5870 replacement, a company should either match it with a 6950, which is the closest performance equivalent from AMD or the 6970 as the next generation's flagship card. EVGA gave my friend a gtx480 as a replacement for a gtx280 rma. and that only took him one try.

I don't think the customer service reps really understand the products all that well. I was offered a 6970 to replace a 5970. They said the clock speed was higher. I said, "Yeah, the clock speed of a single GPU, but my card has dual GPUs and I run 3 monitors in Eyefinity."

EVGA is nice like that, Asus is clearly not. I wonder if my 280s still work redface.gif

4-5 months for a reasonable outcome on an RMA is absolutely bogus. Asus will never get a cent from me
