Help me OC my 2600K - Page 5

If it does not work at 1.47v with only 2 sticks of RAM, I would dial it down to 4.9Ghz and keep all your 4 sticks of RAM. 100Mhz from 4.9 to 5 = you won't notice, AND you get to keep all your RAM =)

Besides your temps are getting too high.

You can make the machine not reboot when you get a BSOD so you can note the code down.

Right click My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced System Settings -> Startup and Recovery Settings -> Uncheck "Automatically Restart" under "System Failure"

Yeah, honestly I don't know where those damn temps came from. It ran fine at high 60's for like 15 mins then all of a sudden, BOOM they just skyrocketed then about a couple mins after that I get BSOD. Like I said earlier though I just bought a triple 5.25 front bay mount for a 120mm fan to increase airflow in my 800D and decrease temps (technically it should at least a few degrees). Taking up my last 3 front drive bays, but it's worth it, only payed 16 bucks for the mount.

I'm gunna remove a set of RAM in a bit and see what happens, maybe i'll even get to drop the voltage down a bit.
If not, I give up. I really would like the CPU to last me at least 3-4 years, maybe a little longer depending on this damn economy. 1.47v is a bit on the high side as it is and I really don't want my CPU degrading after like 6 months of constant use.

I'm really hope the RAM situation solves the problem, and my temps will definitely go down with a front intake fan on my case. Of course it is the weekend now so i'll probably be waiting forever.

EDIT: Thanks jdip, that's honestly going to be helpful as hell during this. I still don't know where to look for the error code though.

Oh, if you want the CPU to last 3-4 years I would STRONGLY recommend not to go over 1.38v/1.4v for long term. Short term is ok for a validation, benchmark or just to join the 5Ghz stable club but Overclocking at high voltage will speed up the degradation that happens to all CPU's over time.

I got curious, and wanted to see if I could get it up to 5GHz this morning without any luck so far, BSOD every time at around an hour in Prime95. The last voltage I tried was 1.465 volts with it BSODing in Prime95 after a little over an hour.
Is it even safe to continue this journey? (My OCD inside me is begging it is)
What's the maximum safe cpu voltage I should use with speed step enabled?
I plan to do an Offset overclock so it doesn't stay at that voltage 24/7 after I figured out what voltage it became stable at, i'm just afraid to go too high with it.
My specs:
i7 2600K
ASUS Maximus Extreme P67
H100 CPU cooler
Mushkin Enhanced Redline 16GB @ 1600MHz (1.65v) 7-9-8-24
Corsair AX1200 PSU
EVGA GTX 570
Corsair Obsidian 800D

I would not run above 1.4 (intel safe voltage) if you want to use your chip for long therm.
Imo you can stay like this maybe a year, i dont really know it might be less or longer but the chip will degrade way faster i would put this around 1.39 to be safe for long therm use.

yeowch..over 80c under prime..I'd back it down..You're probably getting errors due to heat.

Approximately how long would a 2600K last on average before it starts to degrade at such a high voltage (1.47v already with BSOD) would you say? Even less than 6 months?
Years. Nobody knows for sure really. There are no guarantees with overclocking.

Well, damn. So my journey comes to an end I suppose. I guess i'll stick to my 4.8GHz overclock @ 1.415v, mayble i'll shoot for a flat 1.4 since I lowered the CPU PLL to 1.7 like you recommened. Although, I did 12 hours in small FFT (first prime test) with CPU C3 and C6 disabled. Would you consider it stable @ 1.415v or should I run the blend with the custom 14745 RAM? My highest core temp in small FFT averaged 74-75, lowest was Core#0 at 67-68 average. CPU was at 64c pretty much the whole time.
