Would I be able to just come back down to that stable 4.8ghz without having to run it in prime to make sure it's stable again?

I ask because I was thinking of just setting the vcore to auto and seeing where it would put me at 5ghz. I've aleady ran the stress test on the 4.8 beautifully, but i'm curious as to what exactly my chip needs for 5. I know it'll overshoot when I set it to auto but if it's reasonable maybe i'll actually try and manually go for it again.
Man i wish my 2500k would boot at 1.4 lol...as a matter of fact let me try those settings real quick...mine is power hungry. biggrin.gif
Well I changed it in my core center and it appears to be working so far i used 1.42v on CPU core though. This was my 1st Sandy so I'm reverse engineering on the temps because my other 2 will boot 5ghz @ 1.39v.

sort of similiar problem i got, im very stable at 4.8ghz using 1.40v or 1.3950 bios V, but when i try to hit 4.9 or 5.0 i think i have to JACK up the vcore in bios to like 1.48v or higher, course i don't want to do that high!

im just gonna stick with 4.8@1.40 according to cpuZ

I'd stick with that man...that's really good voltage. My 2500k is just a fresh batch off the line and it likes 1.48 but that's what i been running it at forever so....

How long would you estimate you've been running strong at 1.48v? I fear that's what i'd need for 5ghz but i'd like it to last me at least 2.5-3 years at that voltage.

i dunno over a year or so...

what clocka nd vcore where you trying? Is this still your i5 2500k trying to run 4.8Ghz @ 1.4?

As has been said, just bump up your vcore a bit and you should get it stable.

If you do a search, while there are some lucky ppl with i5 2500K's that can run 4.8Ghz at <1.4v, the larger majority of users with intermediate mobos need an average vcore of around 1.45v to keep their i5 2500K stable at 4.8Ghz - some need as much as 1.48v to be stable in some CPU benchmarks.

I'd just bump vcore up more and if you can not run stable and keep temps under a level you are comfortable with, then drop your OC down to 4.7Ghz until you get better cooling.
