Diablo3 Minimum Requirements - Celeron D

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

I have a friend that hasn't been in the PC world for a long time, and has an older tower. He brought it to me to fine tune, clean up, and get ready for the launch of Diablo 3 next week.

This thing has some serious dust! Its rocking XP Pro SP3 (Not activated)
Corsair XMS2 DDR 2 (2GB) Ram
Biostar P4M890 - M7 TE MoBo
PNY GeForce 8500GT DDR2 512MB GPU

and

Worst of all, a Celeron D 3.46GHz CPU

The GPU, Ram, HDD, etc all meet the minimum requirements for D3, but when I read about the CPU, Battle.net requires a Pentium D 2.8GHz or better. It recommends a Core2Duo 2.4GHz or higher. I don't know the difference between a CeleronD and PentiumD... are they the same?

If so, this will run D3, but I'm guessing it will run like wet ass...

I built my wife a nice little Sandyi3 system for under $400 for Christmas... this is what im recommending to him, but it wont be done in time...

What are your thoughts?

You can do a cheap AMD fusion build for him and save everyone money and trouble.

I have a friend that plays the Witcher 2 on this thing. Sure he has to turn down the graphics, but it runs great.

A Pentium D is dual core while a Celeron D is single core. I believe a pentium may also have hyperthreading and the Celeron doesn't. The game will probably run on the lowest settings but not well.

I doubt a 8500 gt will run diablo 3, all new game require 8600/ 8800 gt minimum .
Maybe hell get lucky
you can build a amd build for under 400$ that will run d3 well, maybe not maxed but still.
My guess is it will run, and most likely run alright. Make sure he turns the physics on the lowest setting.

Honestly a fusion build is not a bad idea, id bet it run d3 on med/hi settings with decent resolution... It's def all around more powerful.

Check this out.
