iPod hard drive access?

Thread Starter
I've had an iPod for 2 years, and it has accumulated over 3,000 songs on it, many of which I do not still have the CDs of. My comp recently went belly up (damn Biostar) and I had to wipe my hard drive and get a new mobo. Now, I am trying to get my songs off of my iPod and put them on my new HD, but I can't access them. I tried doing a backup-restore, but the folder they were in was shown as being full of songs, but once I opened the folder it looked empty. Any ideas on how I can do this? I really don't want to track down all of my old CDs.

You can do it without software if you are having problems. Let me know if you want to go software-free.

Ephpod is a great utility though.

how do I do it w/o software?
Ephpod is a little confusing, or maybe I'm just an idiot.

just open up your iPod on "my computer" and drag your songs off of it from the folder it's in...I do it all the time.
