$500 budget. What should i get?!

Ok so i did own a xfx r7970 double d black edition. The card had terribly loud coil whine so i RMAd it with newegg and im getting my refund next week. I want you guys to tell me what is the best card to get with a 500$ budget.

I was thinking of going back to the 7970 but this time buying an asus dcuii card. Gtx 670 looks promising but i dont know if it will handle my three monitor setup in the future. Gtx 680 is also another option. I would consider sli or crossfire so give me your ideas and thoughts.

With a three monitor setup, the memory bandwidth of the GTX680 will probably be a little bit of a bottleneck (256-bit, even on the 4GB models) so I recommend you just pick up a 7970.
I would steer clear of the Asus DCII though, as there were known heat issues for the back of the card, and the cooler was supposedly faulty for the 7950.
I'd probably pick this up:

Pretty much all of your budget, but heck.. why not? thumb.gif

Nope. Luckily newegg was great with customer service. I called in and they gave me a free shipping label and they revoked the restock fee since the card was defective

yeah id get another 7970, 2gbs of ram on a 256 bit bus is kind of pushing it if you were to get a 680.

For single screen? What resolution will you be playing at? (I'd expect the 7970 to deliver better FPS at 2560 x 1440, but not much else)

Then mheat specifically asked mogg what would he get if it was a single monitor instead, probably just to see what he said.

OP, what games? I'm torn though. I want to say GTX 680 2GB but 7970's 3GB is appealing.

You already had a 7970, How did it do? Odd's are the next one doesn't have a coil whine issue.

Well i play cod, bf3, crysis 2, etc. I had the 7970 and it was great, really good performance but i couldnt stand the noise. I think i would want to get the direct cu ii 7970 but the 670 is ~$100+ cheaper and in benchmarks it beats the 7970. Also if i was to buy a single 27" i would play at 1920x1080
