HD 5970 problems

Thread Starter
So, I went to install my 5970 into my PC today (used to have a 460) and to my surprise, my performance decreased by A LOT. BF3 can barely run at all, I get a constant 20-30 fps compared to my 460 where I'd get 40-50ish... Counter strike source went down as well... I Went from 500fps on the stress test to 200? I know my CPU is a bottleneck but I should have seen improvement in my games, not a radical decrease, right?

I also made sure to run driver sweeper before hand.

CAPS installed and crossfire enabled?

Sounds like you are probably getting negative scaling.

One GPU from the 5970 should give you rates roughly equal to a 460

crossfire is at default. I'm not really sure what settings I should be at. My GPU clock and memory clock keep changing from 725/1000 to 157/333.. I don't know if that's normal.

And yes I installed caps.

Is your board Crossfire compatible? because I've noticed your board has an Nvidia chipset.
and do you have the latest BIOS installed for your board?

How would I know that? since it's an nvidia chip, id say no..

I didn't think it would matter. It's 2 cards in 1, not two single ones working in crossfire

Actually, it is basically two cards working as one, the two separate chips work in Crossfire so it is basically the same as having two 5850's on a board.

I don't believe that is correct, It doesn't matter what board you have, it's not the same as crossfire.

It actually is. Two cards on one board have to be either SLI'd or Crossfired to work together..
470
Notice on the bottom it says crossfire enabled?
