400-700$ budget GPU Gaming, 27" 1440p + Aux monitor (sub 1080p)

Looking to ideally get something within the next day or so, using a catleap 27" 1440p monitor - will be adding an additional small monitor for vent/web/whatever

Gaming! BF3, SCII, WoW, Diablo3, Civ V, - anything and everything else I'm looking for full ultra MINUS multisampling and AA - I understand if I need to turn these down to play at this resolution but would LIKE it high if possible

Buy 7970 now, OC it
Wait 7970 1GHz Addition, OC it further

Buy 670 Now/Wait for stock
Wait 670 Custom PCB - unlocked voltage higher OC

Buy 680 Now/Wait for stock
Wait EVGA 680 4GB FTW (does anyone know if this has unlocked voltage?)
Wait 680 unlocked voltage custom PCB

I will be adding an additional card ~3months to a year down the line, I would ideally like to keep said cards for 2 generations maybe 3 depending on how well they hold up,

Please feel free to make additional suggestions! I'm currently leaning towards EVGA for any Nvidia products, don't have much knowledge along the lines of manufacturing for AMD cards and who is the best.

I don't want to spend money just to spend it, but I'd rather overspend then have regrets!!!! thumb.gif

thanks for the help and suggestions!!

I'm thinking I'd prefer a blower style card, as I have a H100 up top right now for my 3570k, do plan to eventually upgrade to a full custom loop, and have at least one of the two planned cards down the line in said loop (obviously the top). Either way I'm not too huge on having even more hot air on my CPU, but feel free to talk me into an open style.

Just trying to weigh my options, 4GB versions of the 680 and 670 are now available - would a 3GB 7970 preform better then those as well? (stock 670/680 = 2GB)

Also any specific models of the 7970 you prefer?

Anyone know when the GHz Edition comes out? (or news on it or anything). Bonus points for a graph @ 1440p or 1600p 680oc vs 7970oc
