Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7

I'm currently running Windows 7 Pro on my home media server, and I would like to know if there are any advantages or drawbacks to running Server 2008 R2 instead (it's free). I'm a CS student and I would like to play with Active Directory and Exchange server, among other things. One thing to note is that the server in question is used to browse the internet from time to time by a family member. What would be the ideal way to handle this user if I switch to Server 08?

Specs:
AMD Athlon II x4 620
4GB DDR3 1333mhz
1.5TB Samsung F4 5400 rpm (will be adding drives in the future)

Server 2008 and 2008 R2 are more media friendly than 2003, but they are still not as flexible in that area as 7 is unless you use third party streaming software and not Windows Media Center. Allegedly WMC can be enabled in 08 R2 at least, but I ran into some serious issues when I tired it a while back. I would recommend running R2 on a separate machine. I don't know what you want to do with your CS degree, but you'll be in a world of hurt if you don't at least know the basics of Active Directory.

Exchange is much less important unless you want to be a dedicated exchange admin. Screw that noise, exchange loves to wrestle with its handlers. I'm not that patient, personally.

I'm using PS3 Media Server to serve all of my media, so WMC isn't a major concern.
