he thinks chrome is all he needs to protect him from ANY viruses when infact he properly has hundreds of viruses that antivirus hasn't picked up
and i have warned him you should at least have some protection because no matter what since you don't know what your doing your properly going to get a virus that destroys your bios lol
can you shed some light on this

In the last 3 years I never used an active always running antivirus, because it just eats up system resources and never had any kind of problems.
The only thing I do use is malwarebytes ,I do some scans once in a while it is very rare when it actually finds anything.
Many viruses are easy to spot in the task manager,a new process that never was there,of course if you know your computer.

I reformat twice a year (or more) because I usually install 10 different versions of Linux, resize my partitions all to hell and kill my bootloader in the process. So I just reinstall Windows and start fresh. Don't pretend to have any clue of what I do with my PC. It makes you look foolish when you assume.

If your boot loader is trashed you can't boot to windows... get it? Then factor in wanting to put Windows on a different drive... I never leave Windows alone... this year I decided I didn't want the bloat of Windows 7 or Vista, so I put XP Pro 64 bit on to replace it. That didn't play nice with some of my current hardware. So I put Vista on to use for a while... I got sick of Vista load times and went back to Windows 7 last week. If I had one wish it would be to do away with Windows and never look back but I have games... oh well.
