Need recommendation for Closed headphones 100$ range

I'll be using these to listen to a lot of techno/trance (this is very important) and as well gaming. I'm currently using my Razer Carcharias but I would like to switch to a headphone + mic combo. Keep in mind that I'm in Canada so headphone prices are generally 30-50$+ than the US price. I was thinking of the Beyerdynamic DDT 770 PRO but it's double my budget. However, I am willing to go as high as 150$ or so.

Before you get any decent headphones in that price rang, you're going to want to think about a soundcard or amp. Do you have any of those? If not, either upgrade that first or if your focus isn't on HiFi music (ie FLAC), then you might be better off with "gaming" headphones with attached mics.

I was actually thinking of getting a soundcard once I get the headphones but right now I would like to transition to a set of headphones that'll make me enjoy listening to music more since I'm limited by my Carcharias.

I'm not super experienced with different headphones, but by upgrading headphones first, there's the risk that if you get a set that's too nice (HD 555s, 770 Pros) everything will sound bad because your collection is low quality (iTunes will officially be dead to you), but maybe that's what you need to convince you to spend money on a soundcard smile.gif

I use to have the Asus Essence Xonar STX (currently trying to sell) and have switched to the Fiio E17 for my laptop. Either of these are more than enough for the headphones you're talking about upgrading to.

At the moment, I'm trying to find out what headphones will suit me best because ever since I transitioned into FLAC music (although there are still a few non-FLACs in my library) I noticed a huge difference in the quality and I want to enhance that even more with headphones, I would eventually pick up a soundcard to go with it of course.

Well then, a quick browse through the dozens of other "Which headphones?" threads should give you a good idea of the range of headphones out there. I own a pair of HD 555s (great for acoustic/classical, but not for trance and not closed) and a pair of AKG K271 MKii, which I never thought would rival the comfort of the HD 555s, but now I rarely pick up my Sennheisers. I'd suggest those, or anything used on OCN really. Much better deals on here than new.

I'm pretty happy with my Audio Technica A-700 which are slightly above $100 on Amazon. I've also heard good things about the Shure 440's, which are under $100 on Amazon.

The Razer Carcharias are a headphone + mic combo, but I'm guessing you want a better sounding headphone + mic?
Your motherboard comes with low cost DACs (Digital to Analog Converter)
Just adding a low cost sound card, like the Asus Xonar DGX or DG will make your music sound better with your current headphones.
As I'm unfamiliar with the sound quality of the Razer Carcharias, it's hard to recommend something better sounding in you budget.
Samson SR850 (made by Superlux) and Superlux HD668B have great sound for their price.
Both headphones are semi-open.

I tried on my friend's HD558 and my headset, the Carcharias just lacks quality when it comes to music. I'd like to also be grabbing headphones just so I can bring them outside with me when I travel and leave my Carcharias at home.

You can pick up some Ultrasone HFI-580's for $130 right now on Amazon.com
I picked these up in November and after a short break in period, I love them. I mainly listen to electronic music, so after reading a lot of reviews, I decided to choose the 580's for the low and tight Bass. $130 is a pretty decent price, but I've seen them listed as low as $118 and as high as $189, so Id be swift in making your decision.
