Once you get the IHS off and clean up the old tim properly, wouldn't cleaning off the old epoxy then become the problem? I should think this would need to be done in order to get a new, clean, level bond between the IHS and the board, not to mention the proper clearance between the die, new tim and underside of the IHS would be critical to heat transfer.
If I knew that a super clean, sanitary, factory job could be done I'd give it a go myself. Also wouldn't you need to clamp the IHS to the board to allow the new epoxy to set-up ?
One more thing, wouldn't this be the perfect place to use a high tech, super good thermal adhesive ? does such a product exist ?

Anyways, you don't need to be sponsered to test things out. There is a thermal dissipation problem with these chips. Like the link I provided in the first post, there seems to be a cure.
As for warranty, I don't really care as I've owned dozens of CPUs over the years and not one have ever gone wrong for me to replace.

Well, you wanted performance right? Well, a hex core would give you that. Well, you could always sell your 1155 motherboard and buy an X79.

No, I'm not saying that you need to be sponsored, but it helps when you accidently kill your chip and you wish to get another one.

Anyways, you've already decided to dissect the chip, so best of luck and subbed! biggrin.gif

if you see more than a 5c drop, i would be shocked.

you would expect that intel would've tested different tims for the ihs and die and would've even done a baseline best scenario test with no ihs to compare results.

that would meam someone or some team screwed up royally at intel.

So how come everyone have different results? i dont get it....this guy from XS have huge drop like 10c if we take ambients temps into account, but guys on this forum proved there was no difference, what gives? different batches maybe?

user error and/or placebo effect.

if you asked 100 people on this forum to remount their current cooler with the same tim they used before (but tell them they are using a new space-age nasa-ready tim), I'm sure you'll get at least 1 person to claim they see a 5-10c drop in temps.

I don't even think there's a 10c difference between the cheapest tim and the best tim on the market.

So your saying both this guy from XS and Vr-Zone articles are false? thinking.gif

Not that i don't trust you, but there is so much confusion, someone need to test this for real.

Yeah, I'd just leave IHS off and have your cooler on the bare die. Then you're guaranteed the best possible temps.

Well this is gonna sound very odd but is there any Local guys in Toronto that has a SB chip handy? He can come over so I can use his chip to BIOS flash this motherboard tonight and get the tests going. Plus having another guy confirming what I'm doing would count as "Extra Proof".

Anyone in Toronto around shepard-yonge intersection that wants to help out? :Da
