It's also only 3way SLI compatible too. This could explain the poor 4 way scaling we keep seeing. ninja.gif
Like I said though, it doesn't matter, since it won't fully saturate a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot anyway. If it were an 8x slot, that's different.

Doesn't matter there's like zero gain anyways.

That's what I said...... tongue.gif

OP, you need a 3.0 pci-e Z68/Z77/X79 motherboard with Ivy CPU for 3.0.

Agreed. I think only dual GPU cards can saturate a PCI-E 2.0 x16 lane, i still don't see the point of PCI-E 3.0. And to boot, PCI-E 3.0 x8 is the same as PCI-E 2.0 x16 when you go SLI... rolleyes.gif

I'm really scratching my head at the people who said zomg pcie 3.0 is the win. I just put my trifire in a x79 rig, and yep, got not much of any change. Where is this 30-40% gain? LOL. I want my money back. bruce.gif

I think everyone is referring to callsignvega's thread about how he tested pci3 vs pci2 on this quadsli? and noticed a big drop from pci3 to pci2.
Small wonder.

I see!!!! I'm using a SandyBridge CPU! maybe thats why it's not showing that its in 3.0 slot......ugh I have to comeback to the store to get one then!! i forgot about those damn ivy bridges....im hoping quadcore(LGA1155) ivy bridge is enough for my single monitor gaming needs....

I'm pretty sure my mobo supports it...cuz thats the reason i bought it. just for the 3.0.

I would stay with the chip you have if it is a good clocker. There is zero gain going Ivy for you, in fact you might end up being flustered by the compact core heat issue. Oh wait you don't have a K chip??

PCIe 2.0 x8 will be a slight bottleneck for some games running CF or SLI (680 or 7970).

PCIe 3.0 x8 shouldn't be a bottleneck.

Not that it matters anyway, your card doesn't even fully saturate a 2.0 x16 lane anyway.

does this affect or degrade (bottleneck) the card performance???
