ASUS Direct CU II GTX 670 question? - Page 4

Asus OC:
Max core clock with boost 1293 MHz,
Max memory clock 1890 MHz
80.6 FPS in their BF3 bench
25dbA at load at 1058 MHz
Has tons of PCB improvements that will increase the life of the card, free backplate, free tuning software,

Reference OC:

Max core clock with boost ~1240
Max memory clock 1760 MHz
75FPS in their BF3 Bench
40dbA at load at 915 MHz = normalized to 1058 giving linear scaling (which this cheap fan won't have) = 46dbA at 1058 MHz
Has no extras

To summarize:

+53Mhz (4% increase)
+130Mhz (7% increase)
+5.6 FPS (7% increase)
-21dbA (62% decrease in dbA) [This is a two-fold (~210%) audible fan noise decrease because of how humans perceive sound]
Has a longer lifespam from PCB improvements, free backplate, free tuning software.
Cost EXACTLY the same as a reference card
Please, keep telling us how a reference card for the same price is better. It's entertaining rolleyes.gif
Also, Guru3D was comparing a STOCK reference 670 to an OVERCLOCKED Asus 670 and the Asus was 4dbA quieter. Their testing methodology for noise is a joke when compared to TPU too, read the methodology for fan noise here, TPU has impeccable, documented and repeatable methodology. Who are you going to believe to be more accurate?

I found this post really informative ... but I have a question ...

How will the Asus perform in my Raven 02-E case ... I currently have a 560ti hawk and find it running very hot due 2 the heatpipe design not performing as intended due to the 90 degree rotation ...

Would the reference model be a better bet for my case ??

Asus CUII (inc. TOP) uses a custom PCB with better components (e.g. alloy choke). More importantly, it comes with more power phases. All this is more than enough to justify the $20 difference, not to mention, binned chip (TOP ver.), better cooler, backplate.

And, the GB Windforce uses GB's GTX 680 PCB which has one extra power phase over NV GTX 680 ref. board. It also has 6 pin + 8 pin PCI-E connectors, compared to 6 + 6 pin.

I'm very concerned about the stuttering issues with the GTX 680. Are people having the same issue on GTX 670's? This reminds me of the GTX 400 stuttering issue.

I never heard of a GTX400 stuttering issue.

Yeah, there are a few people with GTX670s on Nvidia forums complaining in the vsync stuttering thread. I expect more people complaining about the issues that I have been over the past couple of months due to the higher availability of GTX670.

A quality 500w PSU can more than handle even this monster of a GTX 670 smile.gif

And as for the value of "factory overclocked" cards, I count their increased clocks as an advantage, too. I personally dislike the reference GTX 670 design quite a bit... It's awkward, cramped, and it appears to be louder than the already-loud-for-my-taste reference GTX 680 design. I'm quite miffed that they didn't lengthen the PCB by 1-1.5" and use a GF104/114-esque radial fan heatsink. This Asus model runs cooler and more quietly, looks better, is factory overclocked, and should clock nicely... all for a $20 premium. The only disadvantage is its length, but I can overlook that for this case tongue.gif

Have both reference and none reference GTX 670's been stuttering? I heard someone with the windforce 3 had stuttering. No reviews report stuttering. Also cards are being shipped with 300.83 drivers!

What stuttering???
I've had microstuttering on 6950 CFX, that made 100 FPS feel like 25..
No issues on 670 tho.

Do you have stuttering on the 680?
I think it is down to core parking or people taking a GPU out and reinstalling drivers sloppy with a new 680 in the machine.
