Asus Maximus V GENE and 3570k OCing

Thread Starter
I can't seem to be able to overclock at all

I built the computer 2 days ago, I've been getting everything up and running and I was going to proceed to overclock it, but I don't know why, I can't

I've set the Multiplier to x45, upped the CPU vCore to 1.2-1.22, and disabled all the power saving options and turbo mode, but when I get into windows I still shows the CPU running at 3400Mhz with 34 multiplier, even while running prime95, it shows the voltage I've set it up to, and Turbo doesn't kick in, so its not that I'm forgetting to save after changing things in the BIOS/UEFI

Is there a parameter I need change to unlock the multiplier or something? It's my first time OCing an Intel CPU

have you tried updating the BIOS?
Also, try resetting the BIOS to default and trying again?

I had similar issue, it was caused by an old version of the CPU-Z software, the new one reports the frequency correctly.

You do not need to touch any power saving functions! You also do not disable Turbo. You set turbo for your desired OC frequency.

1.22V might be too low voltage for 45X.

Like Stepan said, update to the latest CPU-Z (1.60.1). Also I think about the average for reaching 4.5GHz is around 1.25-1.26v. My setup requires 1.26v to be stable at 4.5GHz.

Forgot to mention that, I already did that with no luck, I set the multiplier to 45 or whatever but it's still locked to 34 :/

EDIT: CPU-Z is the latest one (1.60.1), and if the voltage was too low wouldnt I get a BSOD instead of this? Still, I'll try upping the voltage

If you have an UEFI BIOS you should be able to take some screenshots. Pop in a USB drive to your system and press "F12" (or whatever your button is) in BIOS and show us your settings.

Apparently it was the turbo, if I leave it on it works

Now the problem seems to be that I have a really bad chip, looking at the Ivy thread, people is getting 4.5~ at 1.16-1.20 volts. I tried 1.3v and crashed, bumped it to 1.32 but it got to 80C after just 15 minutes

Trying now at 1.25v with 1.6v PPL and see if it works, 1,25v and still getting errors

I don't have a USB drive at hand so I can't do any screenshot, but everything is at Auto/Stock except for LLC (Ultra High), vCore (1.26), PPL (1.6) and CPU Ratio (45)

Meh, I get depressed looking at people getting 4.5Ghz with 1.16-1.20 :/, Switched from a pretty good 1090t and wanted to keep more or less the same encoding power, looks like I wont be able to

Are you absolutely certain that it is not your RAM holding you back? Also 80C is fine for IB, since you want to keep it at or below 85ish, that shouldn't be an issue.
