Disappointed with GB GTX 670 overclock - Page 3

I'm from the age where raising voltages on a vid card required soldering skills and a VR. The whole software vmod revolution has people spoiled. This being said, I believe there is still a driver/BIOS lock on Kepler voltages at the moment but this should be sorted out in the coming months. thumb.gif

I don't think my soldering skills are good enough to warrant messing with a 400-500 dollar card. Sure I'll do a vmod on a 8800GT. tongue.gif

So you get 50fps, the best OC'er gets 53fps. A difference this small is completely invisible to the naked eye.
I understand being disappointed you didn't win the silicon lottery wink.gif but the actual practical ramifications are nil thumb.gifWarning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

While I agree that he shouldn't dwell on a few % difference, I think for the gigabyte OC specifically, he is well below average:

Will you send it back or still keep it?

I hear ya there!

Not to totally derail this thread, but that is one of my displeasures with PC OCing these days... Any fool can put together a 2600K and any modern vid card.. up the vcore and multi on the Sandy, and move some sliders on Afterburner and say they are a l33t Overclocker.

There is little to no skill seperating bench runs these days. Its like the economy- there is no middle class. Some are on full phase change, some have no clue. Everyone else is stuck in the middle with little seperation outside of hitting silicon lotteries.

I could attempt to exchange at my local retailer, but dont really wanna go through the hassle.
I'm still more than happy with the performance .

Can you confirm that you are getting this 'max clock' value from afterburner history graph or gpu-z history graph?
Because it should be well known by now that the 'boost clock' reported on the overview screen in any app (gpu-z, afterburner) is full of lies smile.gif

Kind of disappointed since most that I have seen reviewers able to get it to around 1300MHz or higher. Is it just me or are the reviewers receiving cherry picked chips? I have seen other normal users with 670s that also can't overclock worth a darn.

This might be a silly question, but I have to ask, do you have a Gigabyte GTX 670 OC edition or just a regular Gigabyte GTX 670?

I'm going by the history graph on gpuz. 1225 is the highest I get (which I assume includes boost and all)

ok..where do you suggest I should be looking for the "real" max clock I'm get after + oc offset on core is applied, plus the dynamic boost.?

mine is the OC edition, fyi
i feel lucky , mine will do +100 with no power increase and hold at 1302 mhz boost. gigabyte OC. have you tried ocing without the power increase ? mine dont seem to care for it.

Several users on that I have seen on OCN have only been able to achieve overclocks in the low 1200's. *shrugs*

I ordered another one off of Newegg the same day. I will see which one overclocks better and send back or sell the loser.

I remember when I tried to volt mod my 6600GT AGP... many years ago.  I must have sweat a bucket that day trying to solder several resistors.

I think all Gigabyte 670s in NA are the OC edition. Mine says "OC Version" on the box.

Tried it before. Doesn't seem to do much.
