I decided to put Linux back on my desktop after a long absence. I don't plan to use it all the time just to mess around with and use some of the nice tools for disk management, virus scanning suspect files and youtube-dl. Arch has always been my distro of choice but I didn't want to go through all the setup when I wouldn't be using it all that much. I decided to give Chakra Linux a try. I had tried it a while back but it was in it's infancy and some things weren't working right with the installer but now it is a more complete though a still in progress release.
The install process is super easy with a nice GUI interface that guides you through the process smoothly. I used the minimal install so once it is done I was left with a nice minimal KDE environment with all the drivers including Nvidia proprietary installed for me. On the back side Chakra is still very Arch like, It still uses pacman though developers plan to move to something else. They use their own repositories but they seem comparable to Arch's though there is no AUR there is a large community CRR that holds many of the same packages as the AUR.
Overall I think it is a great distro. They plan to deviate farther from Arch with a new packaged manager etc. but I really can't see any reason to not use Chakra over say Ubuntu or Mint or other easy distros.
