Sorry guys, you will buy MS, because having used Ubuntu as a noob, its just not viable.

Nrgx.

Microsoft still makes a crapload, and I mean crapload of money, so I'm sorry if I don't shed a tear for their loses. They still make so much money it's rediculous, and they always have. And alot of these people who pirate XP are people who wouldn't buy it anyway. There's alot of people who only use it because they can pirate it. If they were really forced to, they'd use something else to check their email, cause some people just aren't going to pay for software, period, or at least not that much. As far as I'm concerned MS greatly overestimates it's losses from pirates. Not all these people who pirate XP would buy it anyway, they'd learn to use linux or something.

So what they'll do, is just make it less people using their software in the world. Smart move? When I really think about it, I don't think it is big picture-wise. More and more people will start to use and talk about something else. I can see it: "no man, not anymore, this new linux distro is easy to use, and works with everything it's great, come with us to the dark side, it's free". Something else gets more and more popular and MS starts losing alot of market. Then all of sudden MS has some real competition one day, and can no longer play god and do as they will. I see a stupid move like this by MS, as a great opportunity for some other OS to steal a whole lot of customer's away.

When Vista comes out, the truth will be known, and then and ONLY then will I get mad at Microsoft.

IDK if there is a reason they havnt done this already or not, but why not make it so Windows sends them something every so often saying what it is installed on, and if you try to installed it on a computer while they are still getting signals from the first computer saying its installed, they prevent you from installing? That way, you can install it as many times as you want on one computer, but you cant install it on more then one, which is really what this is all about.

If they go through with that, I think we will see a big boom in Linux use amough enthusiests.

Or make it necessary to send ur name and some info in it? That way it's yours, it has your name on it and no one else will copy your key. I think that's better than playing guessing games; "hmm i see this is a bit different here and a bit of change there... I'm guessing this is a WHOLE nother computer."

Yes, I'm starting to want to more and more these days. I used to screw around with Redhat quite a bit. Looks like it's time to learn something new again . Or, once something comes along that's easy to use like Windows, and does everything with no problems or huge learning curve, I'm off this windows boat.

What's the best/easiest/most compatible version of Linux right now? I may start loading up something real soon here and get on learning it.
