Most corporates don't buy XP because it is too expensive, and the only real difference between XP and 2000 is the look.... no offense intended. Also, most of the software they use works smoother on 2000, and they don't like to activate windows. One windows 2000 key can be used for as many PC's as they like, though they need to get the CD's from a company such as OETC: http://www.oetc.org/
OETC is what our school uses to be able to have one license key for over 500 computers. Multiple CD keys, though.

No offence taken. I've been packaging apps for desktop OS's for 10 years. I know the differences. I think you may be misinformed. No offence intended.

Well, I never got excited, so I can't calm down.....but this doesn't make me happy either....I am not a fan of the hoops I have to jump through for XP, so the fact that Vista continues this garbage is not good news to me.

If I pay for the software, and I have the ability to change my hardware around as I see fit, I see no reason to call Microsoft and ask them to pretty please turn my computer back on.

Activation hasn't stopped piracy of XP, and it's not going to stop piracy of Vista.......all it does is annoy the people who actually pay for the poorly coded garbage they call an OS.

Oh well, I wasn't buying Vista before anyway, so not like they "lost" a sale.....I have seen no benefit offered to prove it is needed. I don't care about AERO, DX10 is not vital to my life, and the "better" security has already been hacked several times........

They might as well make it so only a licensed professional sanctioned from M$ can install the D*** thing. That way everytime we get a virus or our hardware dies we pay them to come put it back on our machine.

The worst part is, its not going to stop piracy, IMO it's going to make it worse.

Edit:haha old threads are fun.

So basically

1) You can't reinstall it because they only allow one activation
2) If you have pirated material on your computer, Vista will detect this and remove Vista capabilities?

Is this right?
