Yeah its possible that the scratches are the cause.

Does the RAM have XMP ? If so then youll have to enable XMP mode to get it to run at its rated speed

Yeah I enabled it and got rated speed going, but am still frustrated about the ram slots. I'll just RMA it I supposed. There goes 2 weeks from d3 frown.gif.
