Just a question about the Antec 620 and cooling vrm/mosfet etc with CLC coolers!

Hello guys! I just purchased two brackets for mounting 620's on my 7970s. I was wondering if there will be a performance loss if I mount the radiator on it's side (sideways with the sticking out bits on the side).

I have cleared out 3 5.25" bays for mounting one radiator, and another one will be mounted at the back of the case. The one at the back of the case will be facing upwards, but for ease of use and mounting (will be using adhesive velcro on the 5.25" radiators so I want to know as it's a permanent stick velcro on the case aspect and I don't want the 5.25" bay to be useless) will I get any performance loss with the radiator sideways?

Will running the radiator sideways decrease performance?

I'm running push/pull bitfenix spectre pro 1200rpm 120mm fans for quietness and if I don't get 55 degree load temps with my OC (currently getting 62-67 degrees with my gigabyte wind-force x3 with the fan at 59-68% which is noisy but bearable [barely]) I'll be upgrading to two antec 920's and I'll purchase some PWM fans to keep the noise within reason during load.

Thank you for reading and for your input.

My second question is, while two 80x25mm 1100rpm fans (backed by a 200mm coolermaster megaflow fan) mounted about 2cm from the GPUs be enough to cool the vrms?

I will also have a slim 100x10mm slim scythe fan at 1000rpm directed over the vrms to get direct airflow over the components.

I'm worried because with my gpu on load the 80x15mm fans spin at about 3200-3800rpm (one of them directs air over the components like the vrm etc) and the vrms stay pretty toasty at mid-high 60's (but this is with a VERY THIN heat-sink in the way).

I am running the reference PCB with 1.235v (1235mv in afterburner).

Thank you very much thumb.gif

Edit: On my gigabyte 7970 there seems to be a small heatsink (lower than the vrms with the heatsink) covering some components. It is to the right of the VRMS, I was wondering what they were, a picture is below of the component:276

Thanks again and +rep to all help smile.gif

The Sideways should not touch your performance at all, since they are from the factory without air bubbles. You should be fine thumb.gif

For your mem problems, the one on the left should not be a problem, the right I would sand down 1 Vram heatsink to the point until it can make contact.
