Corsair TX850 - comes with in combo with case so can't change frown.gif

Well, besides the fact that I love a powerful build, if this is a gaming rig for LoL and D3 it's SEVERELY overkill.

i5 3570k would handle that fine, no need for hyper threading. How much is that combo deal saving you on the 850w PSU? Because that's about 300W too much for the build. Is he an audiophile that listens to primarily music? Because if he's using low end headphones, that's $250 wasted on a sound card.

Just some ideas... unless your buddy just wanted to blow $4,000.

Cheers, yea he has a $4k budget so cost isn't really a factor in this build, I did talk him out of going 2011 and I agree its absolutely overkill lol for only D3 and LoL. But I wanted to put something together that will last him a number of years.

The combo dead is saving close to $200 already, I know the 850w isnt needed but thats all we can do right now, will that effect the longevity of the components??

he does watch movies and listen to music alot, he already has a Razer Chimaera headset and he will be buying some speakers later on... probably the Corsair SP2500.

Thanks for the input!

We are limited to what we can get in NZ for sound cards, thats the going rate in my country unfortunately. For example the 690 is $2500 NZD, I can get SLI 680's or Tri SLI 670's for cheaper..

The STX is what gets recommended alot for music, movies and gaming, look here for a list of sound cards. If there is another card that works well for music, gaming and movies, let me know. Cheers

If you REALLY want a sound card, just get a Asus Xonar DX, I love mine. Also get some quality headphones, sound card is pointless without some headphones, NOT a headset..

I just got my JVC HA-RX900's in, and everything sounds amazing now. Just make sure to buy a desk mic or a clip on zalman mic if you want VOIP. If I had a 4k budget, you best better bet I'd be watercooling everything! CPU, GPU, 360 rad, ect...
