Setting up bridging in linux vm via a 4g phone tether

Title pretty much says everything I am asking. I am at my grandmas house until tuesday to help her out with all sorts of things. Didn't stop me from lugging my desktop along tongue.gif She lives in the middle of 150 acres so since she has never had the $ to pay thousands of dollars to get cable run to her, there is none.

Luckily I have my droid razr with 4g. I am tethering it to my desktop by usb via a program called tether by clockworkmod (first thing that popped up in the android marketplace under "usb tether"). It requires a active program on the pc and phone to be simultaneously running for it to work.

I have tried bridging it to what I believe is the device. It is listed as "TAP-Win32 Adapter V9" but when running the vm it won't connect. I am not sure if this is the right adapter but it seems like the only one that it could be.

Not sure if the program is working in some backwards way that doesn't officially acknowledge a adapter device to windows? idk.

The 680 is continuing to fold fine in the official v7 client though.

I have successfully connected my xbox to a wireless connected computer. Basically you are going to want to share the connection on the windows end with the VM. I just tried it with wired connect on my end and it looks like it will work. Go to the network and connects windows that is off the network and internet windows. Right click on the tethered connection go to sharing and then click allow other network users to connect through this computers internet connection. Then you should be able to select the VM. I lug my desketop everywhere as well

Thanks for the reply but I am not exactly sure what you are saying. Let me throw in some pics to make sure we are on the same page (might have to open in new tab for full res).

Here is the network settings in my vm

Now here are the Adapters I can bridge to. I can't remember if they were all there are not before but I know for a fact that the only one that I don't know for a fact that it isn't the phone is the the one tap win32 adapter. But that one refuses to connect just like any of the others.

Also here is a list of the adapter type under advance settings. I haven't tried to change any of these yet.

Nope dont worry about the VM side. If you are tethering to the computer it should be strictly on the windows side from my guess. To keep the pics going here is the network and sharing center where you can find the adapter settings: 344

And this is the field i was talking about. As you can see i have the option of sharing the current (hard wired) connection with the VM. While i dont really have knowledge of this in your application i used something very similar to share my wifi connection through my PC to my xbox. Here is the adapter picture: 499

Okay, I see. That's what I thought you were referring to but I was under the assumption that all the network changes would need to be done under the vm since I'm browsing fine and everything else on my pc, including the f@h v7 client is connecting fine to the internet.

I will try it out, thanks.

Ya thats just an educated guess but i dont see why that would not work. Although it is a little funny that it is having trouble connecting to the thether that you have setup on your mobile phone. If that setting does not work then it must be something in the VM and that probably wont be all that hard to figure out since there are just a couple of different options

Well I tried all settings that I could still with no luck. I don't use wifi on my desktop but luckily I carry a older wireless g pci card with me just in case. So I threw that in and booted up a wifi tether program on my phone and then setup bridging in my vm to the wifi card and it works perfectly.

Not to mention the internet is much more responsive now. I was able to play games like bf3 without a issue but web pages and videos loaded up like bad 3g. Now it feels like I am on a legit internet connection. Guess my theory about that program working in backwards ways to tether on the usb was correct.
