When I seen pictures of the Corsair 550D a while back the case looked clean with no filters or grills showing, just the kind of case that won’t show all the dust bunnies on the outside. My main goal in a case is noise and dust, I’m not into over clocking so a raise in cpu temp wasn't of any concern to me, I also wanted to use less fans, I have the 2 120 mm Noctua in the front of this 550D, a 140 mm Noctua on the rear exhaust and another 140 mm Noctua on a COOLER MASTER GeminII S524, so I went from 7 fans on my Lian Li to just 4 fans on my new 550D. Right now the cpu temp at idle is 40c, I can live with that although I might at a later time go with the newer Noctua fans and a different cpu cooler just because I can.

If you want a more complete look I woud change out the Noctua fans with the white and black Arctic F-series fans smile.gif
Arctic fans cool a little bit more but has more noise, not much though smile.gif

Anyone have any good ideas to mount 3.5" harddrives anywhere else but the 2 excisting bays?
I've already planned a move for my SSD drive at the back of the case.
But I really dont know what to do with the HDD's.

Also, my graphics card is about 75 to 80 degrees celsius on high load. Do you think removing both bays would give som more airflow?
I'm also moving my graphics card up some slots to the first slot smile.gif Its currently at the third for no reason smile.gif

How many 3.5" drives?

With this you can mount 2 in 1 5.25" bay, with anti-vibration mounts - it's only $1.00 on special right now! :

If you don't like this one, just do a search on 5.25" to 3.5" adapters...

Removing your 3.5" drive cages will definitely help airflow - anything blocking the fans make it worse, and likewise raising your GPU should help.

Hi folks, i'm finally looking at pulling the trigger on a 550d.

I've currently got an 800d, and want to downsize / get quieter by getting rid of my top-mounted H100 (couger push/pull cfv12-hp or whatevers - intake) and replace it with a rear mounted H80i (exhaust) in a new 550d case.

I'm cooling my GPU with an Antec Kuhler H20 620 (push/pull noctuas) at the rear of my 800d (exhaust) now and it works really well.

Can one of you please measure the distance from the outside of the back of your case and the near edge of the upper front fan?

Nearest i can 'scale' it, using the given dimension of my gtx680's GPU centerline being 4.5" from the back of my case (outside dimension), and given another 2" for the fan and door depth of the 550d, and another half an inch for the hoses being on the outside edge of the pump/heatsink.... it should be around 12.5-13" from front fan to centerline of nvidia GPU? maybe a bit less?

The hoses on the antec kuhler h20 620 are apparently 13".

Thanks smile.gif

What fan controller would work with this case?

A few posts up, you have skazx's post showing which controller he is using. I am using the Lamptron Touch and it works great.

A fan controller wont work for me. I don't want to add a molex connector just to run fans. I wish i could run the fans off my sata power plugs.

Well, i managed to front mount an Antec Kuhler H20 620 that's cooling my GTX680.
Got a Corsair H80i cooling the CPU, rear mounted. Front = intake, rear = exhaust atm.

Temps are as good as my old H100i, noise is reduced.

550d is in all closed mode. Door on and closed, front snap-in panel in place. h20 620 cooled by push/pull Noctua nfp12, nfp12 below that for hdd cooling.

Stock fans on corsair h80i.

Will post a pic another time.

Suffice it to say, in order to do this you need a dremel to remove one of the 'fins' of the lower HDD cage (that ones that help attach it to the upper hdd cage that's no longer there). And it's a very, very tight fit ... but it works.

basically, fan-rad-fan-shroud-shroud-front of case.
