I only need to install 2 drives in the Xigmatech - but I still wonder about them overheating without at least some ventilation.
One case in addition to the 550D that I am considering is the upcoming revised Fractal Design Define XL R2, which has vented covers and unlike the 550D the front is vented all the way up the sides rather than stopping just below the 5.25" bays. I'd swap the included fan for a Corsair SP120 and see how that works...
Thanks much for the info!

From what I noticed. Fan running or not, HDD temps stayed the same for me. I ran it with the bay covers off. But front door closed. Yes, the Xigametek fan has a leds, but never noticed them.
Man, I hear you on the Define XL R2. That really makes it tough choice. Probably the only reason to maybe go with the 550D is just the difference of cost, if your trying to save a few $$.

Yep - a Corsair rep told me there is no provision for intake airflow for the 5.25" bay area with the door closed because of the way the case front is designed...

Normally this wouldn't be a problem because the HDDs are supposed to be installed in the cages below. However, I would want to remove the cages (as you did) for better intake from the built-in 120mm front fans and move my 2 mechanical drives to the 5.25" bays. My SSD would mount vertically using Velcro on the back side of those same bays - like it is in my Scout.

But - since I need as much airflow as possible so I can finally O/C my GPUs as well as my CPU I may rethink the 550D. I really like it but I'm also aware that it is first and foremost for silence.

I have considered the C70 Vengeance because it also has at least 8 expansion slots (which I need) but even though I like the styling it seems that it would be fairly loud with all those ventilation holes everywhere. I'd also want a new solid side window mod immediately... I had to do that to my Scout but it's still noisy as heck with 4 case fans plus a push/pull H60 installed!

I wanted to go Corsair for a case because everything else I have is from them and has worked perfectly - but I don't like the 400/500R so I may be out of choices from them. I'm waiting on prices and release dates for the Define XL R2 at this point.

Thanks again for your info!

Working on it. Got the parts. Using an alphacool monsta 240mm where the hdd cages go. Still putting it together.

Indeed i do. Here's my 550d with an Antec 620 cooling the GPU courtesy of a Dwood bracket. That's the orange thing tongue.gif i've got another one in the spare parts box, for eventual SLi'd 680s. I swore i'd try SLI at least once, so i figured i'd order another one of those at the same time ... there are two 120mm fans gutted for spacers/shrouds as you can barely see above the HDD cage. That cage needed one of the metal 'fins' that help connect it to the upper (now removed) HDD cage in order for the fan/shroud to fit.

below that is another NFp12 also intake.

The CPU is being cooled by a push/pull H80i, with 7v noctua resistors on them to quiet down an awful noise they make. Yuck. Those fans need to be replaced by something quality. Without the resistors, even when running at low speeds where there's not a lot of fan noise, there's a high pitched low volume squeal/whine/not acceptable noise.

So yeah... it's quite quiet, i can almost not hear it. Both the GPU and the CPU fans are at *100% (*resistors) all the time.

The GPU radiator fans (noctua nf-p12) are being controlled by the EVGA Precision X software. Connected to PWM header on the GPU board, using a Gelid Solutions "PWM fan adapter for VGA fan" cable and a Y-splitter. These fans are on intake duty.

The GPU bracket is by Dwood, and there's a 92mm fan on it aswell, running on a resistor at like 5v or 7v. It's a scythe kaze something.

I don't think i missed anything. If i did, ask tongue.gif

... no comments on cable management! i'm almost embarrassed by this mess, lol.
I don't know how you cable people do it, lol, i don't have time for that stuff anymore i guess. When i was younger, i might have spent an extra hour figuring a way to hide more cables. It just didnt seem worth it, and if it performs as is... so i'm not messing with it. Not sure where i'd hide cables and still be able to connect them in this build.

What looks like a twist tie around the rubber tubes on the 620 is actually the not used fan wire, fwiw.

I have not tried test fitting another 620 / shroud below the one that's there, removing the bottom HDD cage. I think that's the only place that one would go though, if/when i eventually try (quiet!) SLI.

just a quick note, for more complete info, that's a Seasonic P-1000 power supply down there smile.gif

Halp guys, I think my front panel headers might be defective.

So what happens is, after I shut down my computer, it starts back up immediately as if I'd restarted instead (and no I didn't click the wrong button).

What also happens is that the computer will turn on by itself as soon as it gets power, which is usually when I flip the PSU switch.

I've narrowed the problem down to the positive PWRLED cable. As soon as I plug it in to the matching pin on my motherboard, the problems start happening.

Is there a fix for this, or should I just get a new front panel?
